My parents

The next day, I woke up to find Adam not in bed. I got up and slipped on a hoodie, then walked downstairs. I found Adam's parents in the kitchen.

"How are you feeling?" Karyn hugged me.
"Better, thank you," I said.
"Adam went down to talk to him." Andres said.
I nodded, "if I go down there, he'll be dead within two minutes." I said.
"We heard everything yesterday. Did that really all happen?" Karyn asked.

I nodded as I made myself a bowl of fruit.

"And more, unfortunately. After his parents killed mine and they threw all the women with no mates in the basement, I did everything I could to keep them safe. Sometimes I was not successful and that was only three times, every time I failed, one of the women were murdered and it broke every one. I guess I never died because of how I am, being a Maltese tiger with all these abilities I'm still learning about." I said.
"Wait, you're a Maltese tiger?" Andres asked.
"Yeah," I said, looking at him.
"Do you know how rare you are? You're one of the most powerful werecats here. No wonder you were so strong and you could project your tiger like that." Andres stood up straight.

Adam walked in, he looked pissed.

"If I stayed down there any longer, he'd be dead." He said.

He saw me at the counter and walked over. I hugged him, calming him down. Adam kissed my head and we sat at the counter.

"So, why am I so different from everyone else?" I asked as Adam wrapped his arms around me from behind and laid his head in the crook of my neck.

"Let's go to the office, I gave Adam a book about it," Andres said.
"What are we talking about?" Adam asked.
"Abby is a Maltese tiger, don't you know how rare that is?" Karyn asked.

We walked to Adam's office and Andres grabbed a book from one of the shelves.

"Open it." He said handing it to me.
"I thought that book was in a different language, no one could read it," Adam said.
"Just open it," Andres said.

I opened it and looked at the writing in it.

"I don't get it, it's Auraric. My parents taught me this when I learned to talk." I said.
"You can read that?" Adam asked.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I?" I asked.
"No one has been able to read that, we've been trying to figure it out for years," Adam said.
"I thought Auraric was just another one of those things you learn about being a werecat. My parents taught it to me like it was normal." I said.
"What kind of felines were your parents? Do you remember?" Karyn asked.
"My mom was like me and my dad was a tiger but he wasn't a Maltese he was a normal bengal," I said.

I looked down at the book, reading some of the pages, but I ran across a page about my parents. I read the page confused.

"What?" Adam asked.
"This page, it's about my parents," I said.
"What's it say?" Andres asked.
"It doesn't make sense, it says my parents aren't dead," I said, looking up at them.
"South shore was one of the respected pacts, maybe it was more than just how they ran it," Adam said.
"If so, Daren's parents would've had to keep your parents alive." Andres looked at me.

I shut the book and shut my eyes.

"Hold on," I said.

They all looked at me.

"So, the place they were buried, the tombstones that were placed, it was all fake?" I asked.
"Well read that page, see if it says anything on where they are," Adam said.

I opened the book and read. "Does it say?" Karyn asked.

"From what I see, it looks like they're at a pond or lake or something." I said.
"Looks like? Doesn't it say there?" Adam asked.
"That's the thing about reading Auraric, it's not like reading words, it's like reading pictures sort of. It's hard to explain. It didn't take me long to learn, it was like I sort of already knew." I said.
"Do you know roughly where they are?" Karyn asked.
"I don't know, I don't recognize where it is, it looks like too many ponds I went by when I came here," I said, looking up at Adam.
"Abby!" I heard Ava down the hall.

I looked at Adam, then walked out in the hall. I saw Ava carrying Tahlia in her arms, I ran over.

"What happened?" I asked, looking at Ava.
"I don't know, her eyes went white and she won't say anything," Ava explained.
"Bring her in here," I said, pulling her into the office.

Ava sat her in a chair and I looked at Tahlia.

"Abby?" Tahlia asked.
"Yeah, it's me. What's going on? You ok?" I asked, grabbing her hands.
"Abby, where am I?" She asked.
"You're in Adams office," I said.
"I don't know where I am, I'm in the forest." She said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I'm by a pond." She said.
"Tahlia, can you draw where you are?" I asked, handing her a paper and a pen.

Tahlia moved her hand around the paper and everyone looked at it.

"I know where that is," Adam said.
I looked up at him, "it's about a mile from here, near the edge of the territory." He said.

I sighed, Tahlia stopped and looked around. She looked up at me and I saw her eyes were back to normal.

"You ok?" I asked.
"Yeah." She said.
"You should go now, your parents could be there," Andres said.
"I'll get some warriors to come with," Adam said. "Ava, take Tahlia back to your room, stay with her, mind link me if anything," I said.

Ava nodded, Adam and I walked out. We went outside and met the warriors there. I ran my hands through my hair.

"You ok?" Adam asked.
"My parents are alive," I said.
"Yeah, and we're gonna go get them. Just relax, it'll be ok." He said.

I nodded.
