Betty walked out of her room and to the top of the stairs. She peeked her head around the corner in hopes that they wouldn't see her.
"Sarah, I'm not dumb! I know you were at a party!" Alice yelled. "And plus, your sister never lies!" She added.
"Well she's lying this time! She's just mad at me about something so she lied to you to get me back." Sarah explained.
"Oh, so you reeking of alcohol and smoke is just a hallucination?" Alice asked, crossing her arms.
"I-uh...." She stuttered. "Would you believe me if I said yes?" She asked, hope filling her eyes.
Sarah stood there for a moment, not knowing what to say. Betty couldn't help the smirk that was slowly forming on her lips.
She also felt bad for snitching on her sister, though. No matter how many times Sarah did awful things to her, no matter how many awful names she called Betty, no matter how many times Sarah treated her like garbage, Betty was still always there for her. Betty never betrayed Sarah like how Sarah always betrays Betty, so this was new to her.
Alice rolled her eyes. "Just tell me the truth, Sarah."
Sarah sighed. "Okay, me and Veronica had a few beers, and she decided to smoke, but I wasn't smoking, I swear."
Betty rolled her eyes, she knew that was a lie.
Alice scoffed, and Betty knew her mom knew Sarah was lying too. "Even if that was true, you still shouldn't even be drinking anyways."
Betty slowly made her way down the stairs, but by the time she was half way down the stairs she already regretted even getting out of bed.
"I'm 17 mom―" Sarah stopped mid sentence when she saw Betty coming down the stairs, throwing her a glare.
Alice looked over, seeing Betty. "Elizabeth, sorry to wake you. Your sister is just getting home from her little night out." She stated, looking back at Sarah with a disappointed expression.
"Betty, tell mom that you lied to her. Tell her I wasn't out partying all night. I told you I was at Veronica's right?"
Betty bit her tongue, she definitely regretted coming down here. "Um...."
She didn't know what to say. She wanted to tell the truth, but she knew her sister would be angry at her―and she hated when Sarah was angry.
"Even if she did tell me that, I still wouldn't believe it. You reek of alcohol and smoke, you don't just smell like that from being at somebody's house." Alice said, glaring at Sarah. "And I know for a fact that her parents would never allow Veronica to smoke and drink inside their house." Alice added, her voice getting louder with every word she said.
"Her parents weren't home. That's why she started smoking in the first place." Sarah argued defensively.
"It doesn't matter Sarah. Either way you were still drinking and smoking, doesn't matter where you did it." Alice argued back.
"I wasn't smoking!" Sarah yelled.
"You don't have to admit it Sarah, your breath gives it away clear enough." Alice said with a raise of her eyebrow.
Sarah threw her head back in a frustrated groan.
Betty stood there, not knowing why she decided to come downstairs in the first place. "Uh, I think I should go―"
"―I don't even know why you came down here in the first place, you're the last person I want to see right now!" Sarah yelled, making Betty inhale sharply.
