A year had gone by from when the hollow had been dealt with. The hollow have been put into Aurora's body then killed, everyone lived seemingly happily ever after...everyone except our "king and queen" of New Orleans. Hope had left to the Salvatore Boarding School and Caroline Forbes had returned to New Orleans. She had come back for Klaus..the two had seemingly fallen in love until Klaus proposed.
Hayley all the while had gone to the bayou with her pack..Elijah had tried getting with her and the two at first had tried to make it work but...that didn't work too well..she always just remembered nearly dying..with him not remotely remembering who she was.It was now the eve of Klaus and Caroline's wedding day and Hayley had been convinced to come..even if she didn't really want to. It would be an understatement to call her jealous of the blonde Forbes after all she'd wanted Klaus dead didn't she? What kind of wife would that be? And Hope having to call her step mom or whatnot? She didn't like it but..of course there was nothing she could do about it.
Night crept upon the city and several people made their ways to the Mikaelson compound for this wedding eve party. Even though most people didn't approve of it. To be true only Freya and Elijah seemed to somewhat agree with this wedding. Rebekah and Kol didn't want any of it but their brother would be happy so what could be done? Not a thing. Everyone gathered at the compound to meet and so the party began with fancy champagne and dancing.
Hayley, of course came slightly late with Declan as her escort. They were friends now but not much else, however to others it didn't seem that way. To them it seemed that the queen and king of New Orleans were now nothing but history. The Brunette Marshall alpha walked into the compound arm in arm with Declan. One could say she lit up the room with her bright smile and whereas everyone was dressed in a more fancy manner...Hayley was dressed in a shimmering long emerald mermaid dress. Her and Rebekah had gone shopping for the dresses in New York a few weeks back and Rebekah was certainly right to say that the dress did look gorgeous on Hayley. It was as if the entire room was dressed up in a fairytale whereas Hayley was dressed in the modern in a way representing the reality to the fairytale.
Everyone stared. Even Klaus, who saw that she was accompanied by Declan. He wondered why it upset him so much to see it.What did he care?
He's the one who had chosen Caroline over Hayley knowing very well what they could have been. He was happy with his fiancée..or so he thought he was. If he was then why was Hayley sticking out so much to him? Why did he care that all the others were staring at her. That was when the what if's began to come to his head. What if Hayley was his..what if this was their engagement party? What if he loved her so..?
His thoughts however were instantly interrupted by a blonde tapping his shoulder and as he turned to the side he came face to face with his fiancée."Come on, everyone's waiting for us to go so that they can give the toasts...we're running behind" she urged, still keeping a smile as she grabbed his hand and dragged him to the staircase with a glass of champagne.
Caroline was like this. Everything had to go in a schedule for her. Everything had to be put together in a proper order. Surprises were never an option..and Hayley? Well she was like the opposite. Hayley Marshall was a perfect mess but Klaus loved her that way. He zoned out for a moment until he then snapped back into reality. A glass of champagne in his hand and everyone waiting for him to say his part of the toast.Hayley watched him as at the same time Rebekah joined beside her and the two were talking with bright smiles to each other as Klaus said his toast.
"It's your turn to give a toast..." Rebekah whispered to Hayley as Hayley's bright eyes widened and she ran quickly by the stairs nearly forgetting that's what she had to do. She snatched a glass of champagne and walked up by the stairs. Caroline hugging her with a smile and Klaus just giving her a glare as if telling her not to fuck it up.
The room fell silent and all eyes were on Hayley as they applauded her on. She smiled and laughed a bit raising her glass."A toast to the groom, a toast to the bride..from your favourite wacky wolf alpha. To your union and the hope that you both provide...and may you always be satisfied" she said aloud as she then glanced at Klaus with the satisfied comment. She knew very little things made him satisfied..Hope being the only thing he was ever satisfied with. Hayley knew him well. She'd seen him go from the aggressive king of the quarter who cared for no one...to the father with a heart full of unconditional love. With this toast..she was letting him go. Letting him live his life happily with Caroline.
Her speech continued and it sounded beautiful even though she was improving it all...no one could tell and even Klaus was drawn a back by it.
May you always be satisfied...he thought to himself, he wouldn't be satisfied..he wasn't satisfied then and it was as if letting her go was what had finally given him the confirmation that he loved Hayley. That he couldn't go through with this marriage."So close to reaching that famous happy ending and almost believing it's not pretend and now I'm here beside you...all of you and I see how far you've come...so far...and yet so close....cheers everybody" Hayley finally concluded beautifully as everyone clapped and cheered for her. She looked back at Klaus and they smiled at each other. He then looked at Caroline and whispered something in her ear. The blonde nodded and glanced at Hayley. The little wolf was sure she'd done something wrong and all she could think to herself was
Shit.
Klaus grabbed Hayley by the arm and brought her out to the balcony where she quickly pulled back.
"What did I do wrong?! I swear I'm sober-"
"I can't marry Caroline." He interrupted leaving Hayley wide eyed.
