Kara walked into her room and headed toward her closet. She opened the doors, reached for her weekend bag from the bottom, and placed it on her bed. She then returned to the closet and began tossing all her clothes into the bag. The reason for packing everything was simple: she didn't have much, and she would need it all. Once her clothes were packed, she zipped up the bag and grabbed her backpack from the floor.
She walked to her nightstand, opened the drawer, and noticed there wasn't much personal stuff inside. She picked up the photo resting on top of the jumble of items in the drawer and studied it. It was a picture of her mother and father. Kara had never known her mother, who had died giving birth to her. Her father used to tell her stories of their adventures and his deep love for her mother, but he never revealed her name or the name of her fairytale. Thus, Kara only knew what her mother looked like.
A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. She quickly hid the picture behind her back as Evie appeared in the doorway.
"Are you almost done?" Evie asked.
"Yeah, I'm almost finished," Kara replied.
"Aren't you excited to go?" Evie said cheerfully. "Just imagine all the big castles filled with those cute princes—"
She was cut off by the voice of the Evil Queen. "Evie!"
"Coming, Mother," Evie called back, and she walked away.
Kara took one last look at the photo before putting it into her backpack, along with the rest of the contents from her nightstand drawer. She zipped up the backpack, swung it over her shoulder, grabbed her weekend bag, and took a final glance around her room.
"Knock knock," Jay said from the doorway.
Kara turned to see him holding a weekend bag in one hand and a backpack slung over his shoulder.
"Since they invited just four of us, we need to sneak you into the car," Jay explained.
"Well, that should be easy," Kara said confidently.
"Oh, you think so?" Jay asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, because I happen to be the best thief on the island," Kara said with a smirk.
"Really?" Jay replied, matching her smirk.
"Yes. I'm the best at sneaking around, so this won't be too hard," Kara assured him.
"Well, let's go then," Jay said, heading toward the front door with Kara following.
Kara stopped just around the corner, out of sight. Jay walked outside, and she peeked around the edge to see a limousine parked on the small square in front of the house. The vehicle was surrounded by curious onlookers. Jay placed his bags in the trunk and headed to the front of the car. As he passed the driver's door, the driver stepped out, scanning the crowd.
Jay reached the front of the limousine and glanced back at Kara with a smirk. Kara began to strategize. The crowd wouldn't be a problem since they weren't aware of the four-person limit. However, the driver was likely informed about the number of kids he was supposed to pick up, so Kara had to avoid being seen by him.
"What are you doing?" a voice asked behind her.
Kara turned to find Evie standing there.
"There are supposed to be four people in the limousine, so I—" Kara started, but as soon as she mentioned the word "limousine," Evie gasped and dashed outside.
Kara laughed softly. Evie really did embody that princess charm. The Evil Queen then walked past Kara. "Ah! Smells like common folk," she commented.
"Carlos!" Cruella's voice echoed, followed by the sound of footsteps racing down the stairs.
