18: Ashes

» my heart is like a stallion. they love it more when it's broken. do you wanna, feel beautiful, do you wanna? «

James led the way to the old ballet studio as he explained the latest hunt he was in. He gave me the crude details of how her blood smelled when the wind blew. How he had to have her, and how he left the other two vampires with him so he could accomplish this feat. He wanted to toy with Edward as he said. In his personal opinion, it was stupid to keep her human when he could have her for eternity.

It marveled me how quickly he welcomed me back to his games. To any person or vampire we had crossed; it would was blatantly obvious his crush on me was large.  I never reciprocated his feelings and he never crossed the line than harmless flirting.

"You act as if we'd just seen each other yesterday." I eyed him suspiciously. Was there something up his sleeve? Did he smell Jasper or Alice on me? "How did you know I would come with you."

"I smell your blood lust." A malicious smirk grew on his face. "You're the same old Sage I remember."

My fingers grazed the arm of the human cornered between James and the wall. A small smirk played on my lips at the sound of his heart rapidly beating against his chest. I had lured the young man to my "house" under the pretense of a sexual time. The actual homeowners were our lunch. I couldn't shake the thrill I received from the terror in their eyes after they realized they invited in the worst strangers ever.

James had his eye on this man for a few days. He stalked him each night and taunted his prey. Then he left him be for awhile, feeding him the false hope of peace. Then I swooped tonight to catch our victim.

"Wh-What are you?!" The man's voice trembled as sweat trickled down his forehead. "How could you do this to me?" His eyes met mine. Wide eyed with realization and fear of what he so foolishly stepped into. A sly smile played on my lips.

"Your worst nightmare."  I whispered into his ear. His heart momentarily halted. The sounds of his cries made me hungrier than before. "James, you take the first bite. I  don't think I'd be able to share once I get started." I finger trailed down the jugular. It was my favorite place to sink my fangs in. Forget the wrist, or shoulders. I loved when my sharp teeth dug deep into the thickest vein of the neck. It was the juiciest, most flavorful area.

"I-I'm begging you!" The man croaked out as James tightened his grip around the guy's neck. He forcibly brought one wrist against his mouth and inhaled deeply. "Pl-please, Angelica!" I hadn't given this man my real name. "You seem like a nice woman."

I wasn't who I used to be anymore.

That struck a chord through me. I knew for a fact, I was different. I had to be. I lived a life where I fed on animals and coexisted with humans. There was no was I'd be the same as I was prior. The person I was when we met was just as blood thirsty, cruel, and indifferent towards the world. There was a time when I grew angry at the world and I wanted to take everything in my path. My father had been dead for years. Then I had lost my life and my mother grew sick towards her death. I watched over my first love's family but he was gone from their lives as well. Everyone and everything forsake me. I was vengeful towards the world and took only what I wanted. There was no way I could still be that person. He must've been bluffing. I could only scoff to mask my true feelings.
