2006."I tripped over this fake leg— I'm serious! I'm so serious!" Ferguson laughed as Alice bowed her head. Her lighthearted laugh escaped her lips at the inane story Fergie had been telling her. I had heard it all before; the story of the mannequin and department store worker. It was set in the late 70s and boy was it a doozy. I smiled myself as I turned to Jasper.
"How's classes been?" I asked as my fingers traced random shapes over the palm of his hand. Edward finished playing on the piano before he went to his room. While Esme and Carlisle were on a hut. Emmett and Rosalie... well they were busy destroying beds. Jasper caught my fingers in his hand and gave them a gentle squeeze.
"They're alright. Same as usual." Jasper shrugged as he ran his finger over my engagement ring. I nearly forget it's there. It feels like an extension of me most of the time. Merged with my body instead of something I can easily pull off. "How's Alex been?"
There was an incident.
It happened last summer right before we were supposed to go to class. We had been hunting when he smelled an injured human miles away. Fergie had made a small appearance before the injured hiker before he dashed off. I had been there to assure he wouldn't return. But it was difficult for me to have even seen it.
My blood lust had spike alongside his.
As a result, he and I took an extended year off from school. We figured it'd be safer for everyone that way.
I wasn't entirely complaining but Esme and I had been training him on restraint. Carlisle brought blood bags from his job for Fergie to get near. It was mentally exhausting for him to be exposed to it each day albeit his success.
"Fergie's making immense progress." I boasted for my pal who had shot next t me at the sound of his name.
"Oi." His arm was thrown around my shoulders. My hair briefly swayed when he moved swiftly. "You taking shit?" He had a fake scowl on his face which only made me roll my eyes. I shoved him off me. "Remember when we first met?"
"Those were some dark times."
"We used to snack on any and everything that move when we were hungry." He scoffed at the memory. I was still new to the game but Fergie had been thirty three years older than me as a vampire. He'd been doing it for much longer.
But he had also switched to feeding on animals way sooner than I had prior to meeting Alice in the first place.
Esme returned a few moments later and called for Fergie and me. Jasper and Alice left to feed while we had started our training. I smiled at the sight of my lover and my closest friend leaving for their hunt. I'm glad those two got along well. Despite being the Cullens being together for decades; they seemed to have a closer relationship than Jasper and Rosalie, or Edward and Alice. It just warmed my dead body to bits knowing two of my top three favorites in this house got along. As much as I loved Ferguson; Emmett held his place in my top three.
