13: Difficulties
» I'm on deck, yeah I'm up next
Tonight I'm high as a private jet «Jasper's tender kisses made my eyes flutter open. Often I would get lost in a deep trance that's the closest thing to sleep I could get. The sun shone and beat against my face which caused my skin to glisten. His smile was the first thing that greeted me, and I could help but return it.
Eternity.
I had eternity with this mate of mine. His temperature matched my own as our fingers laced together.
"You know I've traveled the world before but I feel like I'm only just seeing it." Jasper shared with me as his arms wrapped around my petite waist. "You've given me so much more to live for Sage." I couldn't help but smile widely at him. I reciprocated those feelings. "Thank you."
It's been two years since we've gone. It so far seemed endless with him. The adventures we've embarked, the memories we've created... it could go on forever. It would. The first year between us was bad. Really bad. We couldn't keep off each other and made love too often. Too many beds broken, too many places marked by our passion. It got to a point where he and I would just be naked because we'd crave each other that badly.
In fact, we were both bare right now.
"We should probably get dressed." I chuckled as I ran my fingers down the middle of his torso; between the ridge of his abs. A spark between my legs flared when my finger stopped at his pelvis. I couldn't control myself. I immediately had him between my legs again, hand on his throat. He smirked at me when I had done so. "Fuck." I grumbled as my tongue met with his.

Emmett was in his right mind to keep his distance from me since the last comment he made. I had no idea how to process it. And I've tried my best to keep it away from Edward and I could only hope Emmett did the same. If Edward knew anything though, he kept his mouth shut quiet well. It didn't help that we also lived with a subjective precognitive. Or that my mate could feel what I feel. In honesty, the comment went over my head after I processed it. I hadn't thought of Emmett and I together for decades. Especially after I met my mate. It just brought back a whole rush of memories.
The couple days Jasper gave me was beneficial. I wasn't as cynical the Monday we returned to class, in fact I had an almost pleasant day. Jasper and I met our family at the lunch table. I had my tray of food for show before me. Edward was, as usual, fixated on Bella. Rosalie had a look of disapproval on her when I got to the table. Emmett and Alex were in their own conversation and Alice just smiled as usual in her own bubbly manner.
I could see the looks Bella stole to glance at Edward. Even without Alice's power I could tell they were going to end up together. I wasn't too keen about a human being part of our family. The concern of getting outed was big. But I had my own issues to worry over. My fingers traced circles on Jasper's hand as I absentmindedly stared at my fruit. I was focused on what I was doing in hopes to divert any thoughts Edward may hear. As if on cue, he shot up from his seat and walked out of the cafeteria. A few moments later, Bella followed suit.
"They are soooooo gonna bang–" Alex teased about their obvious future. Emmett laughed with him, and Rosalie banged against the table. That silenced the rest of them, as well as a few tables around us.
"Are you not concerned for our safety!" Rosalie spoke just above a whisper through gritted teeth. "That human could out us or even jeopardize our reputation with the Volturi." With that, she left. Emmett stayed behind for a bit, a look of defeat on his face before he shot up to follow her. Alex and Alice were in their own little world which left Jasper and I in ours. I looked up at my mate and gave him a faint smile. I felt like I was being dishonest to him. It made me feel grimy in a sense that I kept this secret from him.
Jasper's eyebrow cocked up and I knew the jig was up. He knew something was going on with me. I sighed deeply. I had to confront it. I excused myself from Alice and Alex as we headed to the nurse's office. I got another sick note out of class and we silently made our way to his car. Our fingers intertwined and I couldn't help but smile. It reminded me how silly it was for me to want anything from Emmett. This was the love of my entire life and he was literally meant for me. There was nothing that could tear us apart.
So why did I not want to tell him!
"You've been acting rather odd lately Sage." Jasper commented as his eyes deter from the road before us. The trees and concrete zip past us in a blur. "Anything I should be concerned about?" He questioned though I knew him. He would've demanded this from me a year ago. He's grown softer than he used to. His temperament was short before. I remained silent for what seemed like an hour. "Hm." Was his only reply. I would've rather done this while he wasn't driving. I bit my lip in hesitation. It wasn't like we'd die but it'd be a waste of a nice car.
"Pull over." I steered the wheel towards the side of the road. If I had a heart, it'd be beating a mile at minute. Jasper did as told and left the car on park. He stared at me with bright eyes and clicked his tongue in his mouth. I could tell his impatience grew. "It's rather embarrassing—" It truly was. Before I could continue, Jasper's phone rang. As irritated as he was, he answered the call. He held the phone up to his ear and I could hear Alice's voice crystal clear.
"Bella found out!" Alice excitedly announced. I could practically feel her energy radiating through the phone. My mood shifted the sudden news. I was still very new to being a vampiric vegan. If Edward were to actually pursue a relationship with a human... I don't know if I could handle it. With her around, it's be tempting. Her blood alone was potent, I saw everything Edward felt. With my powers developing, who knows how I would feel.
"I don't agree with this..." I mumbled as I bit my thumb. Not only did I have the Emmett issue daunting over me. Now a human was about to enter our lives so casually. "Alice, I'm sure you can clearly understand my hesitation." Our eyes matched the same upset we shared. Jasper would never say it to Edward's face, figuratively speaking, but he wasn't keen on the idea either. Mainly because old habits died hard and I was stubborn as hell.
"I've already heard enough from Rosalie." Alice scoffed. "I was hoping you'd come around quicker—"
"Alice, how does Alex feel about this? We were on the same boat you know." I snapped her back to reality. There was plenty more feelings at stake that just Edward's. The other line grew silent for several moments. She was really thinking this through. Before the line clicked dead, she merely 'hmph'ed in reply.
"You alright darlin'?" Jasper had an strong grip on my shoulder. His eyes bore into mine laced with genuine concern. He could probably feel how anxious I was. "You're strong. You can handle this."
For now, it seemed our other conversation was put on hold. There were more pressing matters to attend to. Jasper revved up his engine, before he sped us back home.
