The next week Ava reached out to Bri to see if she wanted to hang out. Bri had been pretty distant for the last week which wasn't like her. Ava pulled out her phone and texted Bri to ask her if she wanted to come over later. It took Bri a while to respond, but she finally said yeah. They planned to hang out later that night.

When Bri came over she seemed more quiet than usual. Ava decided to break the awkward silence by asking the obvious question. "So why have you been so distant? I know I've been spending a lot of time with Maya now, but I'm not always with her. I miss you. What have you been up to?"

Ava 's comment seemed to break her silence. "Not much really. I have been talking to someone. Nothing serious for now though" Bri replied.

For some reason Ava felt uneasy. "Oh really?" Ava said completely shocked. "Who is she?" Ava asked.

"Her name is Jess. She's pretty cool" Bri said.

"Hmm. So how did you meet?" Ava asked.

"We met online" Bri replied.

"Oh. That's cool. So um, do you like her? Do you see things getting serious eventually?" Ava asked.

"Yeah, I hope so" Bri responded.

"Oh, well that's great" Ava said playing off how uneasy she was.

"Yeah definitely. So what about you? What have you been up to?" Bri asked.

Ava didn't feel like this was the right time to tell her about hooking up with Maya. She didn't know why she didn't want to tell her though. Maybe because she didn't want to hear Bri tell her it was wrong, or maybe it was because she was too shocked about what she just heard from Bri.

"Uhh, you know just work. I've been hanging with Maya too here and there" Ava said.

"Mmm yeah" Bri said with very little emotion.

"I wish you would at least give her a chance. She's not bad at all. I think you would actually like her" Ava said.

"Yeah, I doubt it" Bri replied honestly.

"You could at least try for me, friend" Ava said.

"I mean I'd be cordial if we were in the same room. I just don't trust her with you" Bri said honestly.

Ava rolled her eyes. "Ok, fair enough."

The two talked for a while longer. Bri was back to not acting so weird. Ava still couldn't figure out what was going on with her. She would catch Bri just staring at her sometimes and sighing. It was kind of weird, but Ava just thought maybe she just had a lot on her mind.

They decided to play cards and Bri won almost every game. Eventually Bri had to leave. The two hugged and Ava went back to the couch alone. She instantly pulled out her phone and started searching Instagram for Jess's page once Bri left. It had been so long since Bri had a girlfriend. She never even mentioned that she was looking for one and then all of a sudden this girl pops up out of nowhere. The whole thing just felt off.

Ava went to Bri's Instagram page and looked through her friend's list for someone named Jess. She found her rather quickly. Jess was pretty. To be honest she seemed like Bri's type. Cute, femme, and classy, but it still seemed very sudden. She continued to scroll through Jess's Instagram page and found pictures of a guy.

What the hell- Ava thought to herself.

Who was this guy? They were recent pics. Ava thought for a second that they could be just friends or maybe a brother, but once she saw a pic of them kissing, she ruled that out. This had to be a current boyfriend. It was posted a few days ago with no caption. Why would she post this if she's talking to Bri?? And more importantly, why didn't Bri tell Ava this? Ava had so many questions. This was just all so confusing. It was not like Bri to talk to someone like this. They used to talk about everything. Usually Ava knew who Bri was interested in.. their name, background, and everything! She never had to snoop through Instagram to find out about a girl Bri liked. This was ridiculous. Ava already didn't like this woman.

Ava started to pick up the phone to text Bri and ask her why she didn't tell her more about Jess, but then she thought about the fact that she was hiding stuff about Maya as well. That was different though right? Well, maybe not- Ava thought to herself. She put her phone down and decided not to text Bri. They clearly both had secrets.

Ava planned to tell Bri about hooking up with Maya soon though. Ava hated keeping secrets, and she was a terrible liar. As a matter of fact, Bri probably already knew something was up.

Ava decided to lay on the couch for a little while and to think about everything. She normally didn't like silence, but she felt like there was a lot going on. It felt like as soon as things got back okay with Maya, things with Bri went downhill. To make matters worse, she doesn't really know how to fix it. The Maya problem was an easy fix, but Bri would be more difficult. Ava really just wanted her friend back. She could tell Bri was irritated about something, but Ava didn't know what it was or how to fix it.

Ava's mind eventually shifted to thinking about Maya. Although things were stressful with Bri, she couldn't deny that things were awesome with Maya. She was starting to like her—really REALLY like her. However, she had to make sure she wasn't being stupid.

Am I being dumb? Is Bri right for not trusting her? Should I not trust her either? Do I really know her? These thoughts ran through Ava's mind and she honestly couldn't answer any of them. She did, however, know that she had strong feelings for Maya. She didn't want to say it- and she dared not tell Bri yet- but she was falling for Maya.

She knew it might be dumb. She shouldn't be falling for someone who is engaged, but Ava couldn't help it. She wondered if she should even tell Maya. Well, of course she should, but how should she do it, and what if Maya doesn't feel the same way? Oh, well- Ava thought to herself. It was a risk worth taking. She decided not to tell Maya right away though. She needed some help on how to do it. Hopefully, she could get Bri to help her out with this. She knew Bri didn't like Maya, but it was worth a shot to ask her for help anyway.
