Chapter 17

Harry's POV

"Harry," came a soft sigh. I wheeled around, my wand aiming at the noise. Draco Malfoy's face came into view, his hair slightly messed up on the side. He seemed fine, unharmed, but I was certain he had been in the Hospital Wing.

"Draco!" I exclaimed, then clamped my hand over my mouth, because I was being way too loud.

"Are you alright?" Draco asked. I blinked away the tears that had been threatening to spill this whole time.

The walls didn't just contain the students who had died. But anyone and everyone who had worked against Voldemort and lost their lives.

"It's all my fault," I found myself whispering after a moment.

"What is?"

"This room. It shouldn't have to be here. If I had just been faster-if I had just destroyed the horcruxes sooner, this wouldn't be a thing. It wouldn't be necessary." I sighed. "But I wasn't. I was too slow."

"Harry James Potter." Draco demanded. "Do not, under any circumstances, blame yourself for this. You saved so many. But no war comes without casualties. If that was possible no one would have a problem with them."

Draco's POV

Harry looked into my eyes as I finished talking. His were so bright, so beautiful. I felt like I could look into them forever and never get bored.

"You mean that?" Harry asked.

"Yes. It wasn't your fault." I said, my voice strangely weak.

"I hurt you though. Sectum sempra."

"I was going to crucio you. You just defended yourself." I said, biting my tongue bitterly. I was the real monster. Harry was the Chosen One, the Golden Boy-

I was nothing but a death eater.

"I shouldn't have used it." Harry whispered.

"The past is in the past. We can't change what happened." I whispered back.

I don't know how exactly it happened, or who moved first, but suddenly Harry's lips and mine were connected and we were kissing.
