ushijima was not as approachable to other humans but animals seemed to come to him like he was a magnet. he adored the presence of animals and the soft spot he’s had for them ever since he was a kid never seemed to stop growing. 

yet again, he was stopped from continuing his jog and ended up crouched down in front of a box with what he assumed to be a stray puppy, coloured black and white. it pained him that someone would leave such a vulnerable beauty all alone in such a vast environment and he knew he couldn’t leave it without doing something. for a while, he sat and played with the small puppy, pondering what he should do. 

like other animals, the puppy grew fond of ushijima quick and learned to trust his touch and gentle mannerism. if ushijima was allowed to take the puppy to the dorms, or if his mom would even allow it at their home, he would do so but, unfortunately that was not the case. 

he sat down for 5 minutes which turned into 10 and ended up being 30. he didn’t know what to do and he couldn’t just leave this puppy alone. 

“what should i do?” he mumbled, gently petting the animal who already tired out from playing, falling into a comfortable slumber on his lap, “you can’t be here on your own… i can't allow it…”

he sighed and let his mind wander. 

nobody in his team was exactly an option. he had thought about handing the puppy to tendou since he adored small animals as well but knew that tendou stayed at the dorms which ruled him out as an option. his teammates probably liked puppies but didn’t want the responsibility of taking care of one since they were a lot of work. ushijima continued thinking and at one point thought about oikawa tooru. he decided against the idea almost as quick as it had randomly came to his mind. 

as he thought about the puppy on his lap, he began with thinking about what kind of person he wanted to hand his little friend over to. 

he wanted someone loving, making sure the puppy was warm and well fed, had a lot of toys and a nice bed to sleep on. he wanted someone passionate, ensuring the health of the puppy and the effort to create a wonderful environment he could strive in. he wanted someone warm so that the puppy could feel loved and secure in his new home. he wanted someone friendly that would love to be friends with the puppy so he wouldn’t grow up scared or end up abandoned. 

ushijima realized he wanted someone just like you. or rather you in general. 

you were the perfect candidate to take care of his new friend and with you living so close to the school and your family loving animals, you were more than capable of taking responsibility. he just hoped you were willing to do it. after all, he could come visit regularly and even take him on walks. 

with the idea settled, ushijima scooped the small creature into his arms and walked his way back towards the campus where your house was close to. he spent the rest of his walk thinking about how great it would be if you took this puppy into your care. he would have an excuse to visit you more than he already did and see you smile at him even more. it made his heart race and he was growing all the more excited with every step he took. 

“i’m going to take you to y/n’s house,” he told the sleeping puppy mindlessly, a small smile on his lips as he spoke about you who was currently occupying every portion of his mind, “y/n is one of the most loveliest people to exist and i’m sure you’ll fall in love too. i’ve never felt so mushy seeing someone smile before or even when someone’s talking. so you should know i’m taking you to someone special; there’s nothing to worry about.”
