this was super fun to write !! i imagine tanaka as someone who would definitely do this so i decided to choose him as the character !

“hey what are you doing?” tanaka scoffed lightly, gently grabbing onto your bicep to pull you back closer to him and to his other side. he took your place, walking so that you were away from the road and that he would be on the outside as you two made your way to your home. there was a blush on his cheeks as he did this, embarrassed that you might think he’s being a little protective, but he felt much more at ease when you walked farther from the road. 

“i was just walking, ryuu-senpai,” you chuckled with a teasing tone, amused with the action he took when you had moved to walk on his other side. you had stopped to read a sign earlier and when returning to walk you felt that there wasn’t anything wrong about walking on the outer side though tanaka was quick to return you back to where you had been walking before. it was cute though and it brought you a sense of security. it proved to you that tanaka was a person you could find comfort and safety in.

“well yeah,” he mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck and staring at the ground, “s-sure you were but i mean it’s better if you walk on my other side.” his nose scrunched at how cheesy he was sounding and he looked away towards the road, watching a couple cars pass by and people with their bikes speed through traffic. 

“what?” you giggled, beginning to tease him more. this wasn’t helping the blush that was now spreading to his ears but he settled knowing that it was better for you to tease him to your heart’s content than anything bad happen to you.

it was to make sure you were safe and that he could protect you from anything oncoming. if he could make the rules, he would definitely just hold your hand or maybe even walk with his arm around your shoulders so that everyone knew not to mess with you. but he was alright with having you walk on the inner side of the walkway as he was still unsure if you wanted to be that close.

“is it to protect me?” you asked, poking his bicep which made him jump a little, “do you care that much about your kouhai? am i your little baby? hhmm?” you laughed as you continued teasing him, only getting grumbles from the clearly flustered male. “does big bad tanaka ryuunosuke-senpai have a soft side for all his kouhai? shall i tell hinata? i'm sure he'll lovㅡ” 

“o-oi!” he spoke up,  finally turning to you due to your last words. he could try to look as angry as he wanted but the flushed expression gracing his face wasn’t exactly allowing for it. “of course i wanna make sure my kouhai are safe but hey! don’t go around saying weird things to that boy.” 

you laughed, tanaka’s heart skipping a beat. he took in your content expression, admiring the way your cheeks were dusted with a gentle pink and how your eyes squinted up. your cheeks looked chubbier when you smiled so brightly and expressed such happiness to him. he wanted to squish them so badly but kept his cool, knowing you didn’t exactly like it when people made a comment about your cheeks. he found himself smiling and laughing as well, unable to hold himself from enjoying the happiness you were feeling with you. 

“jeez, y/n,” he chuckled, ruffling your hair which made you protest lightly, “i just wanna keep you safe, you got that?”

you looked at him with a smile and nodded. “i know senpai.” 

he playfully rolled his eyes and brought a hand around your head to drag you closer to him. you yelped a little and stumbled over your own feet before managing to match his pace. your arm wrapped around his waist to keep yourself steady and your other hand held onto his hand loosely.

tanaka took note of this and smiled, holding onto your hand just a little bit tighter before giving it a squeeze.

“not just as a senpai, you big goofball,” he told you which made your face burn the same way his was earlier. this time, surprisingly enough, he had the upper hand and was now the one able to laugh at your cute expression. "you're so oblivious, you know that?"

“t-then what!” you huffed, reacting defensively but not enough to pull away from him. you didn’t want to let go of him now that you both were finally so close. 

“as someone who loves you, stupid,” he confessed lightly, giving you a soft squeeze. he leaned down and smiled warmly at you, giving your temple a quick kiss before standing tall with your flustered self by his side. “now drop the senpai would you? call me something cool now! like babe!”
