Quick author's note for a second! Please? The pic has no relevance to the story whatsoever, I just found it cute.

"My name is Hiccup Haddock the Third. Guardians of Childhood, I need your help. The children are in danger. And he," he pointed to the moon, "told me to come to you." I nearly fainted when he said that. Bunny looked Hiccup up and down, just like I had.
"How old are you, mate?" Hiccup looked thoughtful for a second.
"Hmm, from last Wednesday, that'd be, uh, 1048." Everyone, including me, took a step back.
"Hiccup, that's impossible!"
"How is it impossible?"
"Tooth is oldest Guardian. Tooth is only around seven centuries old. You, 1050? Not possible." Hiccup looked offended for a second, then he just looked plain hurt. I didn't like that look on him at all.

Getting on Toothless, Hiccup whispered into his ear,
"C'mon bud. Let;s get out of here. These people don't want us here." The anger and pain on his face was evident, and I chose for this to be my time to shine.
"Howdeedoodethere. Me'm isna used to talking inna dragonese, so me'm isna very fluent. Mi calda is jack. Mi full calda is jack frost. Me'm isna used to talking to actual dragons, so me'm sort of nervous to be bout you, nee-uh offence." Hiccup looked so surprised he might faint again. Toothless looked so happy I thought the smile on his face would make it burst.
"You can speak Dragonese?"
"Yeah, I guess so." My voice shocked me. I was... talking?! What in the sweet hell? How was that even possible? I felt lightheaded as I looked at the Guardians, their mouths hanging open. I looked down awkwardly, mumbling something.
"What?" I mumbled it again.
"Jack, mate, speak up. No one can hear you."

"I SAID MANNY'S CHOSEN A NEW GUARDIAN!" North looked at the crystal that that very moment, was rising from the floor. The moonbeam was beginning to form into the outline of a person, along with something behind it. When it was finished, Hiccup's eyes were the size of dinner plates as he said,
"I'm the new Guardian." He fell backward, catching Toothless completely off guard. Luckily, I was able to swoop in and catch him before he hit the ground. As me and Toothless helped him stand up, he looked around the room. Then, his eyes glassed over for a second before going back to normal. I took a step back. "Jack, w-what's happening? Who am I?"
"You're the spirit of autumn. You're right before me."
"I know that much. I've been doing it for years. What I want to know is," he lowered his voice as he said, "Who was I before I died?" This time it was my turn to faint.

When I came to, Hiccup was sitting at the edge of the bed, helping me sit up. My vision cleared as I saw Hiccup come into focus. Cocking my head, I looked around, to make sure I hadn't been kidnapped or something. When I saw that I was at Santoff Clausen, I relaxed.
"So, I'm guessing you're wanting an answer to your question, right?"
"Oh, uh, right! My-my question..." He looked lost for a second.
"You remember your question, right?"
"Sure I do, i-it's... ugh, I have no idea." I tried to recall the question Hiccup had asked me before. "You asked me who you were before you died."
"So?"
"So what?"
"Who was I?"
"How should I know? You died before I was born as a human! I have no idea!" He looked down sadly. "But I might know someone who will."

~2 HOURS LATER~

We stopped as we reached Tooth's palace. Hiccup looked around in wonder. That was one of the looks I liked on him. "Tooth!" Moments later, Tooth flew around the corner to join us.
"Jack! And, uh, Hiccup, right?" Hiccup nodded, a huge goofy smile on his face. "What can I do you for?"
"Hiccup here was wondering if he could get his memories!"
"Sure thing! Just... wait... a... second..." she said as she rummaged around looking for Hiccup's teeth. About five minutes later, she emerged with a grave look on her face. "They're not here." Hiccup looked crestfallen. "I only know one person who would have the nerve to take your memories."
"W-who?"
"Pitch." I gasped, the breath caught in my throat. Hiccup looked at me, but his face was distorted as I thought about the Millenium of torture Pitch had forced upon me. Tooth tried to touch me, but I flinched, caught in that zone again. I felt physically awful suddenly, and the nausea I thought I could suppress was back again. I clutched my stomach as I moaned, and Hiccup managed to get his hands on my shoulders to shake me out of it. As quickly as it had come, it was gone. I could see Hiccup properly again (and for some reason, I was glad I could), and the nausea was settling down. I stumbled a bit before getting properly on my feet. Hiccup smiled, trying to hide his worry. He was dearly failing. put my hand on his shoulder, smiling at him kindly. I felt determined to kick my ex-captor's ass.

I set off, beckoning for Hiccup to follow. "Bye, Tooth!"
"I-I thought you'd be angrier at Pitch for this!"
"Trust me, I am. But I'm also ready to kick his King of Nightmare ass!"
"Okay. You two make sure you're at Santoff Clausen when the Northern Lights come on, yeah?"
"Of course. Bye, Tooth!" I was getting annoyed now. I just wanted to go already!

When I looked back at Tooth as we left, I was convinced I saw her have that smug "I ship this so bad" expression, but it disappeared before I could see for sure. She waved to us before getting distracted by Baby Tooth. I smirked. That was so Tooth. Hiccup leant on Toothless with one arm, giving that sort of "I; a bad guy but I don't care" face, then said, "Hey. How's it going?" before dissolving into a fit of giggles. I ended up joining him.
"You're cute when you laugh, you know that?" He looked up starkly.
"What?!"
"Nothing." I looked away, averting his gaze. My cheeks heated up, and I turned away even more. Toothless chose to persecute me about it.

"Est you blushing?" Are you blushing?!
"What? nee-uh. Nee-uh way! you must be imagining things!" What? No. No way! You must be imagining things!
"I saw it too." Shit. Hiccup caught me. Great. Just perfect. "Why are you blushing?"
"I-uh... I'm not blushing! I-it's just because we passed the equator a few minutes ago!"
"Because that's believable. Not." I rolled my eyes, looking up in the sky at the few clouds that were in the sky when I saw them. The Northern Lights. "Hiccup! Come on!"

When we (finally) got there, I landed in a heap on the floor. Bunny rushed over to me when he saw I couldn't get up on my own. "Jack!" I finally managed to stand up, but when Bunny took his hand away, I collapsed. Bunny's now huge green eyes showed panic. My hair was plastered to my face, and both were shiny with sweat. My breathing was getting shallower and more desperate. I barely had the strength to lift my staff. I tried to get up again, only to fall down, harder this time, and hit my head on the ground sharply. Soon, my world went black.

Hiccup Haddock was the name on my lips during the nightmares. He was the one in them. And he was the one who killed me.
