The absence of the burning pain from your mark was the first thing you noticed before opening your eyes. It had returned to the feeling of a normal tattoo, just how it should be. The murmurs of those speaking around you didn't become audibly until a few moments later.
"How the hell can I trust you guys and leave her here?!" You immediately recognise this angered whisper to be Axel. "You told me to my face that you would allow for your men to feed on her like she were a bottle of water."
The slight chuckle that sounds throughout the room has to be none other than Seonghwa.
"What do you plan to do against Hongjoong when he comes for her? Get on your knees and beg pretty please with your mortal eyes? She won't be safe with you."
"He's vowed us," Another voice pipes up, this one seems more distant, the person being further away. "If we do anything to hurt her we will be torn apart – you should know that better than anyone."
"So I am meant to feel better simply because it won't be Jongho or San who eat her? That doesn't stop you at all," Axel seems to only be growing more frustrated with each word he speaks.
You decide this seems to be a good point for you to open your eyes, letting them rapidly blink as they adjust to the light which is just above your head.
"Y/N," Your ex is the first to notice as he rushes over to where you lay on a couch. He kneels beside you and gently rests his hand on your knee whilst his concerned gaze meets with yours. You don't let him resume his moment of acting as though you were still together as you hurry to push him away. He looks slightly hurt by this, moving to be standing once more.
You adjust your position to be seated, finally glancing at your surroundings. The space on the couch beside you dips as the all too familiar figure of Seonghwa takes a seat next to you. He makes no movement to touch you or do anything at all as he keeps his gaze focused ahead.
It only takes a moment for you to realise his stare looms over Axel, keeping the mortal in check. You've never seen your ex look startled in the way he does with the vampire staring him down.
"What the fuck happened to me?" You exclaim, bringing a complete halt to any conversations which had taken place prior to you regaining your consciousness.
"Your mark was triggered by us," Seonghwa begins in his typical tone of nonchalance. "The mark is usually a decision made by the individual themselves as it bares consequences which can only be affected by its creator. It will ensure that the wearer is immune to being hypnotised by our kind, meaning if one of us murdered someone and wanted to wipe it from your mind, we wouldn't be able to. Just as how we wouldn't be able to erase any event which you may not want to remember. The power of the mark can be strengthened if it has a focus on a certain vampire or group of vampires. Being close to these sorts can conflict the powers of the mark which leads to it having a breakdown and only the creator of the mark can redirect it's focus and bring a stop to the breakdown you just had."
This brings your attention to Axel as you shoot him a glare filled with the sharp end of your sour mood. "Why would you do this to me?!"
"She asks a lot of questions," The third voice from earlier – Jongho – complains softly. Seonghwa only has to raise his hand to brush off the remark for the other to bite down on his tongue.
"To protect you," Your ex commences his side of the story with such a pitiful look in his eyes. "I've been allowing for these guys to come to 'Wonderland' for years, but you only started to see them after I got you marked. Things were getting heated between them and I because I was sick of them using my Dad's club to do their dirty business. Seonghwa knew I loved you, so he threatened to tear you apart. I wanted you to be able to remember anything that he may have done to you so I got you marked."
