"What do you mean by war?" words could never be enough to explain the feelings of dread and almost fear which had suddenly risen to the forefront of your concerns. Had it not been for the injury on her foot or the foreign environment of this house, she may have considered trying to make a run for it.
"Well you know, an armed state of conflict between different countries or different groups within a country," The words roll off Seonghwa's tongue with ease.
"I know what a god damn war is!" You snap without even thinking twice. Seeing the slight shock in the dark haired male's stare, you put in an effort to soften your tones. "I want to know about the war I'm supposedly involved in."
The male at your side pauses for a brief moment, focusing his stare to his polished black shoes. "The person who was in your apartment was Kim Hongjoong. He isn't very fond of me. As soon as he scented a mortal making contact with myself, he couldn't contain himself from catching a glimpse of you with his own eyes. I thought he might leave you alone considering I only took you home, but I was wrong."
You don't respond verbally, opting to swallow audibly to the other as you try to understand the full precautions of what he's saying.
"I've known Hongjoong since he was a fledgling. He's going to try and hurt you to get to me," Seonghwa mutters the last part.
"But you hardly know me," You rebut. "How the hell would hurting me have an impact on you?"He goes to respond but finds himself falling short as he notices tears brimming in your eyes. He seems to be trying to consider how he should react to this, simply staring at you with his brows furrowed slightly.
"I won't let anything happen to you, Y/N," The steadiness of his tone manages to provide some form of comfort which surprises you. Even hearing the way he says your name, it almost instantaneously pulls you down from the ledge.
"I don't want to be cynical but how can you tell me that?" You shake your head slowly. "Back in my apartment, Hongjoong managed to pull me off my feet and onto the ground without so much as moving an inch or touching me. San and Jongho couldn't do anything so what makes you different?"
"Your concerns are completely justified," Seonghwa doesn't jump to deny what you're saying. No, he seems to be understanding all of your words. "I differ to San and Jongho in the way that I am more powerful if you must."
When he mentions this, you are reminded of the fact that the other two were bowing their heads to him earlier. San let you go without Seonghwa even touching you the night prior.
"Most refer to me as a King of sorts but I'm not highly enamoured by the label," He continues, choosing to the surprised expression which situates itself on your features. "Jongho and San are still some of the most powerful day lighters who have come into existence. You can also be made stronger through appropriate training measures."
"Training?" You repeat his phrasing. This is when he finally turns his head to the side, meeting your gaze with his own.
"I also have reason to believe you've been marked," He says nonchalantly. You don't have to verbalise your lack of understanding as he speaks further. "Do you have any tattoos, Y/N?"
"Only one, though I don't see how it's relevant," Your words are slightly edged with annoyance which doesn't seem to cause for the other to falter at all.
"I need to see it," He states matter-of-factly. Immediately you shake your head rapidly. Your hand flies down to be positioned where it is— right beside your lower region.
