*Conners POV*

"Hey Cone wake up lunch is ready. I made some cheddar broccoli soup for us." Came the singsong voice of my mom dragging me out of my slumber with that silly nickname.

"Did you really make it or did you buy it from Panera?" I chuckled out while sitting up and stretching before being led to the dinning room.

"Uh let's just go eat." She confessed.

"Do you just survive on take out food?" I ask while digging into my soup.

"I mean at work yes because of how much I'm running around, but whenever both Veronica and I's schedule match up and we are both home she'll cook a home made meal for us. She's a really good cook. I think you'll really like her. I can't wait for you guys to finally meet. I've told her a lot about you."

"Mom I think you should take a breath every once in a while and start eating too before the soup gets cold and from what you have said Veronica seems like a nice person. I don't think you have to worry about us not getting along." I laughed out hearing her sigh but soon enough she begins to eat.

After finishing our lunch up my mom helped Howard and I around the house so we, mainly Howard, could get an idea of what the layout was like and where things where. Ending the tour in the living room we sat on the plush couch with Howard jumping in between us.

"Cone lets get down to business about school. The first day of the new school year is on Monday and I've already given your transcripts and school records to the school, so you should be all set in that department. I've also talked to the staff about you and Howard, and they said that they will have one of the students to help you around during the first day. Though I do have to warn you that it is an open campus so there are no stairs luckily, but you have to walk outside to get to the different buildings on campus. Everything should be smooth sailing, but even then I'm sure someone could help you if you get lost."

"That's good with me. Hey what's it even like around here. Like what are people like? I'm curious considering I've never actually visited you here because you always came to me." I started getting myself comfortable on the couch as my mom tired to look for the right words.

"They uh... they are some relatively nice people who really love their baseball games. I myself don't know many of the towns people considering I'm always at the hospital, or hanging out with Veronica and her family and friends." She finishes off. I think about what she says about people really liking baseball and how she spends most of her time with Veronica. I guess in one way this town of Stone-wood it's an opportunity to make new friends and try to live my last high school year like those cheesy rom-com books and movies. Maybe experience things I couldn't in Iowa. The sound of the front door opening and a set of keys being put down brings me out of my fantasy.

"Lucy I am SO tired, where are you?" Veronica calls out from the front door.

"I'm here in the living room with Conner and Howard." After saying that fast foot steps begin getting closer to us and I feel the couch shift as my mom gets up moving Howard and I in the process. Following after my mom I stand up turning to my left only for hands to grab my shoulders and turn me in the other direction as Veronica starts talking again.

"Hey Lucy you look nice and hello Conner it's nice to finally meet you in person. Your mom has told me a lot about you. I'm Veronica Jones. Your moms... roommate... I guess that's what you can call me?" Veronica tells me hesitating at roommate. Oh my god they were roommates. I think of the vine to myself as she shakes my hand.

"It's nice to meet you too Veronica, but I'm sad to say I don't know much about you except my moms praise for your cooking." I say sitting back down onto the awaiting couch as I hear someone clear their throat.
