Sex education should be made mandatory in schools from a very young age. I read about a four-year-old 'raping' a classmate in India. Now, I am baffled, wondering how is that even physically possible? Once I have given up trying to figure out the logistics of the whole thing, I feel sick to my stomach.
Small children need to be taught not to take anything from strangers and to scream and run as far away as possible. Why don't we believe them when they narrate stories of abuse by family members and close friends? Why do we just assume that we can leave them unprotected and vulnerable and then hush up everything in the name of family honor? Why are men getting away with such disgusting behavior? What is the logic behind banning porn in this country? Have the number of rapes reduced? Do you reckon that Indian men are now less sexually frustrated? Bravo.
Apart from the dire need for sex education in our schools, we must discuss it at home. The whole façade of shame needs to be dropped. Young boys and girls need to know about their bodies and that no one has the right to touch them inappropriately. This needs to be taught safely and in a friendly manner that is free of judgement. It certainly needs to be taught by someone with a decent EQ and IQ level who does not have a fossilized mindset. No one wants to learn about anatomy from some monotonous moron.
Let's talk about it all Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and Syphilis; birth control, how to put on a condom for men and women, multiple partners, teenage pregnancies, abortions, miscarriage, BDSM, toys, AIDS, oral, anal, masturbation, kissing. A whole lot more out there that I am sure even I don't know about.
Knowledge is power, and the more you know, the better equipped you are to deal with any situation- so why should this be any different? This should be foremost on the list because this is about your body, your choice, your life - what could possibly be more important than this?
