Trevor’s POV
I waited anxiously for Heather to come back. I was sitting on the couch in the living room, drumming my fingers on the armrest impatiently. I looked at the clock. She’s been out there with him for about ten minutes now. What was taking her so long? Please, she better not be with Jay doing . . . things.
I shuddered.
I didn’t want to imagine it. If she does it with him, that means he’s going to be one step ahead of me. How long have they known each other? How come Kris never said anything to me about it?
Finally she walked through the door and I looked up. I stood up. When she turned around to face me, she bit her lip, as if she was nervous. I did not like it; it felt like we were strangers again.
“Are you okay?”
I blinked. Okay, that was totally not what I was expecting. “I was about to ask you the same thing,” I said, confused. Wasn’t she the one who was crying and freaking out just now when she realized that Jay was an alien? “I thought you were upset because Jay was an alien?”
She shrugged. “I overreacted,” she replied. Something is wrong. She was too calm about this. She came over to me and I saw the worried look in her eyes. Ah.
I cupped her face. “Are you okay?”
She nodded. “Jay told me about his powers,” she replied. She rubbed her eyes and tried to smile. “I’m sorry I overreacted. I guess I was still trying to get it through my head that aliens are actually coming down to Earth.” She looked at me. “Could this be a coincidence or something?”
I shrugged nonchalantly, not wanting to tell her the truth. She’s not allowed to know about the Games.
“I also heard that you guys never met each other until now.”
“Well, Oneirataxia is quite big,” I told her. It was the truth. It was just like how before she met Darcy and such. “It was a city, after all, remember I told you?”
“Didn’t you say that you lived in a building?”
Oh right. I need to remember my lies. Damn, what’s going on? I used to remember every lie I’d told. How come I’ve forgotten about it?
“So I guess that meant I never met him, right?”
She nodded, believing me. She yawned. “I’m tired,” she said, stretching for a bit. “I think I’m going to head off to bed now.” She made a move toward her bedroom but I pulled her back into my arms. She gasped.
“Trevor!”
I cupped her face and kissed her softly. “Can I sleep with you?” I need to hold her, to be reassured that she was still mine, that I was still a step ahead of him. I have to win the Game I need to win the Game.
She seemed surprised and was about to protest but then she relented. She nodded. “Sure,” she replied.
I dropped my hands and held her hands. She smiled and followed me into her room. She went to take a bath before she came out wearing a shirt and shorts. I smiled as I walked inside the bathroom to prepare myself for sleep. When I came out, she was waiting for me in bed. I gulped, feeling a bit edgy.
I knew that I wouldn’t be getting anything tonight. But why do I still feel quite nervous about this? Why was my heart racing so fast?
Damnit, why was she so sexy? She’s making me really . . . needy. Ugh, why do I feel like I was getting hard?
I had to cover my crotch to stop her from seeing as I quickly got into bed next to her. I threw my shirt over my head and tossed it to her chair so I was left only in my boxers. She made room for me in bed and threw the covers over our legs to keep us warm and I threw my arms around her shoulder.
