Jay’s POV
“I’m what?” I gaped, staring at Scott in disbelief after he just told me that I was leaving right at dusk the following morning after he came back from settling things with Sameul and Chad. “But I thought that I was supposed to leave in two days time! Tomorrow is just . . .” I trailed off, not knowing what the right word for it was.
“But, Scott!” I whined moments later.
He shrugged, looking just as clueless as I was about this. “I don’t know what went wrong with the system,” he replied, a hint of annoyance in his voice. “I just got a call from the Minion in control of the system. It told both the leader of Neptune Night and I that the system said the Games start tomorrow at dusk instead of it being in two days time. I’m guessing it got the dates wrong when it told us the dates for this year’s Game.”
You see, every year after a Game, the person (or rather, the Minion) in charge of the system would let the leaders of Neptune Night and Neptune Day know the dates for the next Game so the representatives are supposed to be told two days ahead for preparations. It’s a strict rule. I don’t know what happens if we don’t start it on that day but apparently if we don’t, something bad happens.
“Fine, whatever,” I muttered, scowling.
Everyone walked inside the room and sat around on the floor as I packed my stuff into my suitcase. Scott walked out and came back a few minutes later. He threw a couple of gadgets on my bed. “Here, this is for you,” he said, tossing a watch at me instead of the bed.
I took the watch where I would be able to communicate with him. The second object was a pair of sunglasses. “Does that have X-Ray visions?” I asked eagerly, pointing toward the sunnies.
Scott shrugged.
Chad picked it up from the bed and put it on, grinning. He turned to Sameul and pulled a face. “Ewww! Disgusting.”
Innocently, Sameul asked, his eyes wide, “What? What do you see? Can you see my bones or something?”
“No. I see you.”
Blake burst out laughing and he and Chad exchanged high-fives with him while Sameul’s face fell. Desmond sniggered and even Scott fought back a smile.
“You know,” Sameul spoke up, frowning deeply, “just because I’m the youngest in the group, doesn’t mean you guys can bully me and pick on me all the time.”
Blake patted his head sympathetically and he brushed his hand off, scowling even deeply.
“Oh, but, Sameul,” Desmond spoke up, “we don’t pick on you because you’re the youngest in the group.”
“Yeah, we pick on you because you’re fun to pick on,” Blake chimed in and began to laugh again.
Scott shook his head. “I mean, if you weren’t here, who’s going to entertain us whenever we’re bored?”
Sameul’s jaw dropped, not believing that even Scott, the one who always defended him and always told us not to make fun of Sameul, was now taking the enemies’ side. “Scott! You’re supposed to be on my side! As the leader protecting the youngest member here! That is so unfair, you are so mean! All of you are!” he whined.
I laughed, patting his head. “Don’t worry, Sameul. I’ll be sure to bring back a couple of lacy G-strings for you.”
“HAHAHA!” everyone cracked up.
Sameul rolled his eyes. “You guys are so mature, I cannot believe I have been stuck with you guys for so many years,” he muttered sarcastically under his breath.
