"Is That All You Saw?" (B:U Kato Haru X Reader)

"Good morning, Haru!" I shout as I jog down the hallway. It always nice to see his face.

The light-brown-haired man turns his head and looks to me, coffee in one hand and documents in the other. He gives me a tired look before he stops walking.

"Morning, Y/N. You're awefully cheeeful today..." He says to me once I'm at his side.

I shrug my shoulders with a grin. "I've got a new case with Hoshino today. We're investigating a potential homicide." I say, peering up at him as we entered the elevator.

I peer at the coffee in his hand. "Thank you, Haru." I hum, taking the coffee out of his grasp and sipping it as he tries to get it back.

Haru groans, "Ugh... I can't believe you're Hoshino's partner. They could've paired you up with literally anybody else when I left, but no." He waves his now free hand around as the elevator door closes. "They just had to give you to Hoshino..."

I pull the cup away from my lips and elbow him in the waist. I chuckle, "Aw, come on, Haru. It was bound to happen." He gives me a look as I go on, "You know he was requested by the Chief, especially since he's a great officer. Ever since we got partnered up, we've completed so many cases in the smallest amount of time."

Taking another sip from the drink in my hand, I sneak a look up at the man beside me. Haru is playing with the papers in his grasp.

He asks me, "What, is he a better partner than I am, Y/N?"

I almost choke on Haru's coffee.

"What? No, of course not!" I claim as the elevator doors open, "You're always gonna' be my favourite, remember? No one can replace your special place in my heart."

I send him another grin as we begin our way down the hall. Haru looks away from me with a scoff, "Psh, I know that! I mean, like... y'know what, nevermind."

The look on his face shows that he's actually letting it go. Thank goodness, I didn't want to get into how and why he would still be my favourite person ever.

I try to ease the tension with another nudge to his side. "Okay, Haru. Well, I gotta' go right now, Hoshino's usually here 10 minutes before me." I tell him, jogging backwards as I wave at Haru.

He has his hand on the doorknob to his department. He rolls his eyes with the corner of his mouth tugged up.

"I'll see you after work or something! Have fun!" I tell him. But Haru's eyes widen at me before he calls my name, telling me to stop.

But before I can, my back collides with someone that was standing behind me. Quickly, I place my hand over the hole of the coffee lid so the liquid doesn't splash out.

I hear Haru groan, "Oh my God, you're an idiot."

I step away from the person I bumped into and turn around, eyes trailing up a very nice suit blazer and tie. Damn.

"I'm very sorry, I should've been looking where I was going." I hold the coffee cup close to my chest, looking up to be met with deep blue eyes.

The man in front fixes his watch as he glances down to me. "It's nothing. You didn't damage anything." He tells me before his eyes go to the coffee cup in my hand. "Are you a friend of Kato's?"

He's so straight-forward. Not even trying to ease into it.

"Uh... I am, actually. Why do you ask?" I question before I feel a hand grip my shoulder and pull me back. I gasp a bit, looking up to see Haru glaring at the man in front of me.
