chapter 30-,
several months later,
heejin's pov~
things have changed a lot since i moved. right after i moved, a spot at my mom's work opened and she was lucky enough to give it to me. then i saved enough to buy my own apartment, my mom helped a bit.
this morning felt a bit different. i showered, ate breakfast, did the normal things i usually do, but then my friend texted me, i met him at school.
woojin<3 : hello!! what're you doing?
i responded not to late, replying with "nothing lol wby?"
woojin<3 : im getting ready for a funeral, kinda sad.
me : oh that is...who's funeral?
woojin<3 : my friend's mom's
me : aww. what's your friend's name? tell them i said im sorry <3
woojin<3 : his name is hyunjin, but im sure he'll appreciate it. he's going through a lot right now.
reading that one specific name almost made me choke on my own spit. hyunjin knows woojin? seoyeon died? i left woojin on read and sat still at the table thinking.
hours pasted like nothing and woojin texted me multiple times saying the funeral was over but how sad it was. i couldn't stop thinking about seoyeon. was she really gone? it was all so hard to believe. the woman who gave me advice to follow my dreams no matter what, the woman who told me to look after hyunjin when she was gone, actually was gone.
i know i wasn't invited but i quickly got up and found a black dress. i got ready, did my makeup and hair, i tried to look appropriate for a funeral. sitting at the bottom of my closet were my converse, but next to them were some really nice black heels. i grabbed those and put them on, heading out and going to the cemetery.
i walked around looking at all the graves decorated with flowers and read their names. my feet were killing me since im not used to walking in heels, although i have to say the sound of my heels clicking on the floor is pretty satisfying.
i continued walking around before i saw what looked like a boy standing next to a grave. he had one hand in his pocket, the other holding a beautiful bouquet of roses. i walked over to the grave and read the name, 'park seoyeon'. i looked at the boy and realized it was hyunjin so i put my hand on his shoulder.
he turned his head to look at me. he didn't seem shocked though, i think he was more in the moment of missing his mother.
he bent down and put the roses in front of her name, smiling. when he stood back up i wrapped my arms around his waist and he put his arm around me. we both stared at the grave.
"you came back." i hummed a simple yes. "remember when we went to go visit her? i remember it so clearly, all the words she told me." "what did she say?" "she asked me to look after you when she was gone." he looked at me and i looked up at him. "she also told me to follow my dreams and my heart." i stared between his eyes and his lips and mumbled. "hyunjin, it's you." i grabbed his face softly and pulled him down to me and kissed him.
seoyeon, i did it. i listened to my heart and im happy i did. we miss you dearly, but thank you. thank you for showing us both what love is, it's having each other.
hyunjin, thank you for not letting go of me. i love you.
