The figure watched the caravan while it departed from their line of sight then asked, "Why don't we get 'em?"
"Son, we got this. We have the time," answered James.
"Where did they go, pa?" questioned Paul with a southern drawl.
"New York. The big city. I overheard 'em," replied James.
A snide of breath came out of TJ's nose, then he remarked, "The sooner, the better. I can taste 'er."
"Don't worry. We set a trap," conveyed James.
They approached a road with a couple of vehicles and the rest of their men.
"That horde will be a problem," stated James.
Immediately TJ looked back toward the road that Amber disappeared down.
"I'll kill him if he touches my woman again," declared TJ.
Later that night, Amber sat by a campfire with most of her group while she stared into the flames Adam walked up.
"Hi," whispered Amber.
"Hello," replied Adam.
"Sit down. We all should talk about New York," articulated Amber.
As Jessica and a few of the women walked up with drinks for everyone, she sat beside Joseph.
"What do we need to know?" asked Jessica.
"Think about how bad it was when we were just close to Cleveland," conveyed Amber.
"It was bad," stated Alexandria.
"Right. New York will be worse," reported Amber.
"We already knew that," related Alexandria.
"We got your back," remarked Davis.
"We know what we're getting into," expressed Joseph.
"Thank you," commented Amber.
All of a sudden, Dr. Parker walked up. Instantly he sat beside Amber. She scowled her brow at Dr. Parker.
"Don't sit beside me," demanded Amber.
Right after, Amber walked away from the seat and sat inside the SUV. She closed her eyes, letting her mind's eye wander back to Stephen's face. A pitiful smile played across Amber's face as a tear dropped. Soon tears cascaded down her cheeks. Amber thought back to the first day they met. Stephen strutted into her publicist room about the movie. Quickly Stephen took each of their hands and shook them. The breathtaking smile he gave made Amber's heart miss a beat. She laughed forlornly at the memory. When she took his hand, Amber felt the spark fill the entire room along with her body. A broader smile played across Amber's face as she fell asleep. The grin faded away.
When Rascal and Betty stirred under the covers, then voiced their complaint as Amber woke up.
"What is all the noise about," whispered Amber to the dogs as she rubbed their heads.
As Amber tossed the covers away, she said, "I better go look. Want to go pee?"
When Amber opened the door, the dogs jumped out as she stood up. Amber strolled from the vehicle.
Amber stopped short of the two men arguing then asked, "What's going on?"
"He refused his task," answered David.
"What was asked of you? You work for your keep," demanded Amber.
"I'm sorry," responded Allan.
"Not all the jobs you will like, but they need to be done. No more arguing, please," requested Amber.
"Alright," said Allan.
Gracefully Amber sauntered back to the SUV. Unexpectedly she halted her progress and shuddered. Amber held the flashlight from the vehicle. Soon she scanned the terrain for signs of her feelings. Amber saw nothing.
When Amber sauntered away with her dogs, TJ watched her hips sway back and forth as he licked his lips.
