Adeline's POV

I stared up at the large metal gates. A small entrance to the mansion I had spent so little time in. A metal Umbrella Academy symbol built into the gate, split in half as I opened it with a gentle push. I had talked to Pogo on the phone just hours before. Now, I was to see him in person for the first time since I was ten years old.

It was raining, the cold wind scaring my uncovered skin. My hair was drenched. I had tried to keep it dry. But the run from the cab was vengeful. I knew it was going to be a storm.

I sighed, sitting on the step leading up to the door. My hands holding my head, as my elbows rested on my knees.

What am I doing here? I don't belong here...

"Miss Adeline?..." A soft quiet voice asks from behind me

I quickly turn my body around to see Pogo, stepping out of the front door, unfolding a black umbrella in his hands.

"What are you doing out here in the rain?" He politely asks, handing me the umbrella, shielding me from the daggering rain

"I uh... I didn't know how to-"

"How to knock on the front door of your own home?" He asks, a pitiful smile on his face

"This isn't my home" I bluntly respond, turning my back to the friend that had let me go through all his cruel experiments "He doesn't want me here..."

"That is untrue, Miss Adeline. He asked for your return among news of his death. I promised him you would come home" Pogo says, sitting on the wet step next to me, a hand on my shoulder

"Come inside. It's much warmer inside" He says, offering me a hand

I oblige his offer and he helps me to my feet. Gently, he helps me inside, closing the large wooden doors as I shake in the entrance. Pogo shakes off the umbrella and slides it back into the stand beside the door.

I look around at the large mansion around me. It's beautiful walls glistening with expensive art work and fine statues. Large white pillars held up the mansions foundations. Dark wood arches accenting large open spaces.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Pogo says as he walks passed me, a small limp as he asks for support from his old wooden cane

"Yeah... I guess its... fancy" I attempt to speak elegantly

"The others are around. A few have only just shown up. They are having a family meeting in about ten minutes if you wish to join them. I will introduce you then" He speaks with intelligence.

Though he was a terrible person, his work was most impressive.

"In the meantime, how about you get into some different clothes. After the meeting, you can have a hot bath to warm up. Grace will show you to your room" He offers me a small frail smile

"Ok, thanks"

*****

"Thank you, Grace" I thank the beautiful blonde woman in a pink fifties style swing dress as she gently pulled the door closed.

The house was fairly silent considering.

I hadn't seen a single other human in the house at all. It was like they were the ones who never existed. As I dumped my small packed bag on the floor, I dug around for some clean dry clothes to put on.

What do you wear the first time you meet your adult siblings?

I decide to wear a large sweater and a pair of old jeans. It was a cold and pointless occasion after all. These people didn't care about the clothes I wear. They haven't cared or known me for twenty five years of my life.
