"yeah, I tried to do this hair dye kit once and it did not turn out well so I just went back to my natural hair" yeonsoo giggled out as she gently touched her natural dark hair
Suddenly seonghwa was reminded of y/n
He yawned as he unlocked the front door, he was done classes and he was exhausted. He walked inside the apartment but he froze when he saw red splattered on the ground. His heart stopped seeing the blood red and he rushed to y/n's room thinking she was hurt, or attacked
He slammed her bedroom door open and his eyes widened while he snorted
"y-y/n" seonghwa laughed as the girl turned around. The red in her hair was in splotches and it looked terrible. Y/n narrowed her eyes at seonghwa as she spoke "never speak of this hwa, EVER"
Seonghwa smiled remembering y/n's blushing face as she tried to hide her splotchy hair for days after. He thought it was cute how embarrassed she got and he still remembers how she barely went outside until the red faded.
Then she went back to her natural hair color and as seonghwa promised he never brought it up again. He would do anything for y/n, even if it meant not bringing up one of the funniest moments in his life
"so hwa, did you like the food" yeonsoo asked with a soft smile. Seonghwa froze, as weird as it was no one other than y/n ever called him 'hwa'. The unoriginal nickname that he thought anyone would easily come up with had stayed only as y/n's nickname for him for as long as he could remember, it was weird hearing it from yeonsoo.
He just figured he had to get used to it, he was about to answer her question but soon yeonsoo was blushing as she spoke again
"s-sorry, the nickname just kind of slipped. It's awkward, I'll just wait till we get close to use it...if you want to meet up again" seonghwa was shocked, he couldn't believe the girl he liked was asking him out on another date
"sure, that would be really nice" he said happily. But the memory of y/n with splotchy hair made him smile again
He had wondered why she had changed her hair, but at least the hilarious incident distracted him from...
Seonghwa picked up his phone in a panic and he pressed the button on the side. Soon the date was shown and he froze, he slowly got up and pulled out his wallet. Yeonsoo and seonghwa were done with their food a while ago so he decided to pay quickly since he remembered exactly why y/n had changed her hair that day...to try to distract herself from the heartache of losing someone close to her and seonghwa
"here, I'll pay...I-I forgot, I'm sorry I have to go" he said and then he ran out of the restaurant. His shoes slammed against the concrete as he ran down the street and he went onto the nearest bus stop. He soon got on the next bus and sat down in a random seat, after a while he arrived at a familiar stop.
He got off and his breath hitched in his throat seeing the beautiful garden in front of him. The place his mother loved, the person who died two years ago.
How could he have forgotten....how could he.
The dark sky soon came and the sound of rumbling could be heard as the rain poured down and drenched his clothes. He fell to his knees as he looked at the flowers in front of him with tears in his eyes.
How could he forget someone so precious to him.
He felt so lost and he felt so broken, and the skies mimicked his pain as the rain poured down. He hated this, he hated how terrible he felt, but he deserved it. He knew he was selfish but he just wanted someone to comfort him, for someone to be there.
He sat quietly and the rain fall continued but then he heard the voice that made his heart stop.
"HWA" his eyes snapped up and he saw her. The rain soaked her sweater as she took in deep breaths clearly tired from running and trying to catch her breath. Seonghwa stared as she walked over and she stood in front of him as she just slowly held her arms open
Then he remembered
"I know you're hurting hwa, I know this is breaking you but just know I'm here. Just know that I will always be waiting for you with open arms if you need me"
He had someone, he had someone waiting for him. His heart skipped a beat as he stared at y/n, her hair stuck to some places on her face due to the rain but the soft expression she had on her face as she held her arms open made seonghwa want to break down, so he did. Tears streamed down his face as he slowly got up, he walked over to her and hugged her as he sobbed into her shoulder
"I-I forgot, I forgot about her. My own mother, I'm terrible. I-I went on a date, I was smiling, I was-" seonghwas words were cut off as y/n pulled away from the hug and looked up at him
"you know what she said to me the day we left for college, it was 'take care of seonghwa. Make sure that he knows it's alright to forget about that sad and painful memories in his life, that it's alright to keep the happy memories in his heart...so he can live happily'. She wanted you to forget...but not everything, I think she meant the pain, the pain of losing her. You aren't terrible hwa, you still remember her. You remember her laugh, you remember her kind words, you even remembered the place she loved" y/n spoke softly while gesturing to the flower garden surrounding them that seonghwas mother always visited
Then she smiled brightly "she wanted you to be happy, she wanted you to forget the painful memories and keep the good ones of her. That was her wish and you fulfilled it, you are a wonderful son seonghwa"
Seonghwa felt his heart warm as he sniffled a couple more times until his tears faded and the rain, as if mimicking his now warm heart stopped as well.
"now no more crying, let's go home hwa" seonghwa didn't bother to point out the tears in y/n's eyes as he saw her waiting for him with her hand outstretched for him to hold. He stared at her for a moment making sure to remember her bright smile as she waited for him, soon he grabbed her outstretched hand happily
"yeah, let' go home"
