The night only seemed to drag on, and they still had yet to leave the room. We had moved into the living room to be more comfortable, but my body still seemed to be tenince. I had gotten up and began to pace back and forth in the small spot. I feel like I was driving her crazy, but I couldnt help it. I was restless and at this point all I wanted was to go home, I wanted to go to sleep, but I wanted to sleep in my own bed.
"I can't take all these secrets!" I tell her as I shake my head, Emily had paused reading her book to look up at me. She had given off a small smile before marking her place and sitting the book down on the table next to her.
"I know you can't, I know that its hard, but I'll help you get through it. I didnt have anyone when all of this first became a thing, and Im gonna make sure that all the imprints have someone. I let out a small sigh and stopped pacing so she didnt have to watch me as she was trying to talk to me. You also have Jacob, he will be there for you, every step of the way. You know it, he knows it, we all know it. This pack, its a family and we look out for each other." Emily spoke from her heart and I couldnt help but smile.
"Emily, will you please tell me why Sam asked me all those questions?" I asked her, going to sit back down on the recliner, letting my feet have a break.
"It's not my place, I'm sorry. Unless Sam let's Jake tell you, he will tell you. He let out a small sign. It's just really hard for him, its hard on all of them. Everyone has to keep secrets, from their friends and family, their loved ones, its hard." She told me and I nodded. "Jacob hid you being his imprint for a long time, it was probably tearing him apart." I sighed and turned my head to look at the door before looking back at her. He was doing what he thought was best to keep you safe, because thats his number one priority.
A silence had fallen over us, over the whole house. I had leaned back in the chair to try and relax myself to let my body rest, but deep down it was no use. Emily had tried to get us back into a conversation about random things, like how we were before, to keep me distracted, but it was no use. I couldnt stay focused, it was clear that she wasnt getting of my attention, I just kept looking back at the door and I know she was worrying about me, it was the look on her face. The look in her eyes, the look what my mom would have at times. Emily was like a mom in a way, the way she took care of the pack, how she looked after them.
I knew that Emily had to be worried too, about everything going on, but I knew she wasnt in the dark as much as me. I also knew that she was worrying about me more than she needed to do, I appreciated that she wanted to look out for me, but she already had so much on her plate, I didnt want to add to it. I dont even see how she could do it, do all that she does, all by herself. I knew that I wouldnt be able to do, I couldnt do it all by myself. What Ive learned about her, she doesnt seem bothered by it, but maybe she didnt say anything because Sam could hear her.
"How about we make a cake?" Emily asked me out of the blue, snapping me out of my trance. I turned my head to look at her with a confused look, my eyebrow raised.
"Sounds like fun, but it won't last long after it's done." I softly smiled at her with a light laugh, feeling some of the weight come off my shoulders. If it had only been for a moment, it was better than nothing. She spoke as she grabbed my hand and led me to the kitchen. "Cooking can be relaxing if you just don't think about it. I used to cook all the time to get my mind off things, and now its a hobby I have, since Im always feeding the boys."
"Fine." I fake sighed, with a small smile. "Since I'm already standing." She smiled back at me before standing to her feet and the both of us walking to the kitchen.
It was nice to spend time talking about random things once again and baking. She was going all out on the cakes too, homemade from scratch, two layers, homemade icing, the whole nine yards. I couldnt even think of the last thing I had made from scratch, I know for sure that it wasnt a cake, it probably was a card or something for a gift for my mom or grandma. Emily was an amazing cook, and so far I had only eaten the batter, which would cause her to laugh each time. She told me a story about how her and her cousin used to do things like this, and it made her happy to be able to do it again. When I tried to ask her why she didnt do it anymore, she was easily able to change the conversation in another direction.
Once the cakes were out and were cool enough to put the icing on, that was the final step that we had to do, to finish our hours of hard work. We probably had spent at least two hours just in the kitchen baking, and I dont think I would have rathered to do anything else. When we did start to put the icing on, we had somehow managed to turn it into a contest to see who would get done the fastest. It was super fun, and it had also caused a huge mess. The mess didnt really add to the one that we had already created, this was just the fact that it made it harder to clean up.
"Haha!" I yelled as I finished, throwing my hands up in victory. "I win!" I yelled again with a large smile on my face and letting out a laugh. Emily let out a laugh and rolled her eyes, as she finished the cake she was working on. Even though we had made multiple cakes, Emily said that the boys wouldnt take long to eat all of them.
"Okay, okay. You won fair and square." Emily turned her attention to me, I gave off a big smile. Even though I feel like you cheated. She joked and we both shared a laugh. It wasnt until our laughing died out that my attention turned back to the door, and I felt all the worry come back to me.
"How long have they been in there?" I asked, looking at the door before back at her, a sad look taking over my face.
"I don't know." She let out a small sigh before going to grab two plates, two forks and a knife. How about we get a slice of these cakes and then watch a movie."She smiled as she cut into the one she had been working on before handing me a plate. "I'm sure it can help us relax."
"Sure, why not." I sighed before lightly taking the plate into my hands.
Once she had cut herself a piece of cake, we both walked into the living room and sat on the couch. I had sat down and pulled my legs under me before leaning back, making sure that I was careful enough not to drop my cake on the floor, seeing as that was something that I could do. Emily had also pulled her legs up onto the couch, but she had crossed hers in front of her before laying her plate in her lap.
"So what move do you want to watch?" She asked me, looking back at me as she reached over to grab the remote off the table next to her.
"Well, it's almost Christmas and it's supposed to start snowing soon. The news said it was supposed to start tonight, if it hasnt already. I smiled to try and make myself feel better. I always loved looking at the snow, but once I couldnt feel my toes, it was time for me to go inside. So, let's see if there's any Christmas movies on." I told her and she smiled and nodded her head.
Christmas movies it is. She smiled as she turned on the screen and began to look through the channels.
It didnt take long to find a good movie, the live action version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas had just come on, so we were lucky and hadnt missed out on much, just the opening credits. I let out a small breath before going to sit my cake on the small table next to me before throwing my legs out from under me and sitting my feet on the floor.
