{Olivia}

I park my car in the parking lot of the restaurant and get out. I'm supposed to meet my parents inside.

When I walk inside I look around and soon I see my parents, sitting at a table in the corner, so I walk over to them.

'Hey,' my parents greet me as soon as they notice me. 'How was Liam?'

'The same,' I say, shrugging my shoulders. 'But he gave me this necklace for my birthday. Well, his mom gave it to me, but Liam had already bought it.'

'It's beautiful,' my mother says as she looks at the necklace around my neck. 'You're lucky to have a guy like Liam.'

'I am,' I say and I smile shortly before I take a seat. 'I hope he gets better soon.'

'We do too,' my father says. 'Liam is a great guy.'

'Yeah, it's a shame he can't be here with us,' my mother mumbles. 'He is such a sweetheart.' I nod and take the menu, so I can look at the food they serve here.

Minutes later we tell the waiter what we want to eat and when he walks away my father begins to speak.

'I hope you can still go on vacation with Liam after you graduated,' he says.

'Me too,' I say. 'I can't wait to go to Santorini with him.'

'I remember when your mother and I went there on vacation,' my father says. 'It's one of my favorite vacations.'

'Oh, you mean the one where you cheated?' my mother says bitterly.

Here we go again...

'Oh, come on,' my father sighs. 'I thought we were past that.'

'Yeah, maybe if it stayed at that one time,' my mother hisses.

'You're so childish,' my father mumbles.

'I'm childish?' my mother asks offended. 'You're the one who acts like a hormonal teenage boy who can't keep his dick in his pants!'

'Maybe if you wanted to have sex with me, I wouldn't have!' My father starts yelling now. I can tell everyone is looking at us right now. I'm so done with them messing everything up. I can't even go to dinner with them like a normal, happy family.

'I'm sorry I'm not a slut!' my mother screams back.

'Enough!' I interfere, feeling the anger rage through my body. 'Both of you! I can't even go to dinner with you without you ending up in a fight!' My parents stare at me in awe.

'I'm so sick of you constantly screaming to each other,' I tell them. 'You don't even care that it's my birthday. I just wanted one day. One day without you almost killing each other and you can't even do that. You ruin everything!' I get up and grab my jacket.

'Where are you going?' my mother asks.

'I'm leaving,' I say. 'I don't want to be around you right now. I'm going to celebrate my birthday, alone.'

I barge out of the restaurant, leaving my parents behind. Maybe they'll finally realize what they did.

About an hour later I'm hanging at the bar, stirring with my straw through my cocktail. I know nobody here and nobody came to talk to me. I wouldn't either. I probably look like a desperate, sad girl. I'm no fun to be around at the moment. My parents are fighting all the time and I can't even talk to my boyfriend.

Happy fucking birthday to me.

'Can I get two beers please?' I hear a voice next to me say. I look up and see the guy from the party, Caleb. When he looks at me his eyebrows raise.

'Hey, Olivia, right?' he says. 'You're that girl from the party.'

'Yeah, the one and only,' I mumble.

'What are you doing here, all by yourself?' he asks me. I shrug my shoulders and take another sip from my cocktail.

'Celebrating my birthday, I guess,' I murmur.

'It's your birthday?' he asks surprised and I nod. 'Why are you alone then? You should celebrate!'

'Well, I was getting dinner with my parents, but they were fighting, like usual,' I sigh. 'So I left and came here.'

'What about your friends?' Caleb asks me as he takes a seat on the bar stool next to me.

'I don't wanna call anyone right now,' I admit. 'And well, I can't exactly talk to my boyfriend since he's at the hospital.'

'I heard something at that party about that,' Caleb says. 'What happened to him? If you don't wanna talk about it, that's fine.' I don't know why, but I trust him.

'We got into a fight,' I tell Caleb. 'And then I went to my own house because I was mad at him. He came after me and got into a car accident. So now he's in coma.' I laugh and shake my head to cover up the tears burning in my eyes.

'It's kinda ironic how he got into an accident while I was the one who fucked up,' I say. 'He was just trying to make it up to me and now he's in the damn hospital.'

'You can't do anything about that,' Caleb says, trying to comfort me. 'It happened and it's fucked up, but you gotta accept it and move forward. It'll be alright when he wakes up from his coma.'

'If he wakes up,' I mumble. 'He hasn't made any progress since he's in the hospital.' Suddenly the screen of my phone lights up. It's a text from Nora. I sigh and turn the screen off again. I don't want to talk to anyone right now, except for Caleb. I know we're not going to see each other very often after this, so it doesn't matter what I do, or what I say around him. And that's exactly what I need.

'Don't you wanna talk to her?' Caleb asks and I shake my head.

'Not right now.' I take another sip of my cocktail. 'I just want to forget everything.' Caleb nods understandingly.

'Come on, I'm gonna take you somewhere,' Caleb says, which causes me to raise my eyebrows.

'Where?' I ask him.

'To the fair,' he answers.

'I don't know if that's a good idea,' I mumble. 'I have a boyfriend and you have a girlfriend.'

'So?' Caleb asks. 'It's just as friends. I won't make a move on you, I promise.' He raises two fingers in the air and I laugh.

'Okay, fine,' I give in. Maybe my birthday can be fun after all.
