I got set and put my room in order, it's been a mess for weeks now,
Charles and Lucy were already at the sitting room with my dad, I took my glass and wallet and went downstairs were I saw dad and Charles conversing about the current situation of the country, "my dad always told me he liked Charles because of his interest in the sociopolitical activities of the world, and how good he was in pointing out facts of things relating to it" and would always end all the long talk with telling me to put my interest in it too, little did he know that Charles had interest in virtually everything."hey guys I'm set" I said, and Lucy jumped up from were she was sitting, it was boldly written on her face that she was bored, Charles and my dad had clearly forgotten she even existed as they got so carried away in their conversation.
My dad was so happy to see me out, "where y'all going?, he asked and I signalled Charles to answer since he was the leader of the "LET'S GO OUT" movement,
"Emmm, we just want to drive around sir" he answered and my dad seemed OK with the idea,
" ok then, but don't drive too far, you know we are not done with your license verification " he advised.
I took his car keys and we drove off."we're we heading exactly " Lucy asked as we both looked at Charles with the questioning face,
"to a wonderful place I discovered recently, y'all will like it I promise " Charles replied with a weird smile on his face, he is always up to no good when ever he smiles like that, but we all kept calm for him to take us to his wonderland. The journey was so nice, it was a 20minutes drive but with Charles behind the wheels it seemed like a whole day, he was gentle at driving and Lucy would always complain saying he drives like a lady,
Well, I won't totally disagree with her, because one could easily fall asleep when he drives.
Soon we got to our destination, and we all alighted, I smiled on seeing where Charles had brought us, but the look on Lucy's face could make the devil run out of hell, "this isn't were you talked about right" Lucy questioned, but with the smile on Charles's face, it seemed to be the place, "yes it is, isn't it wonderful? " Charles replied sarcastically, knowing that Lucy hated the place. It was the regular joint for me and Charles, but Lucy stopped coming here with us because the woman who owned the canteen would always refer to her as an in-law, mean while Lucy disliked the woman's son "Pete".
We all stood and waited for an agreement, whether to go in or go somewhere else, but instead they both threw harsh words at themselves over the car, I knew this wouldn't be ending soon, but I honestly don't know who to stand by at this.
"let's just go in and see how things are, it's been weeks we last came here and I strongly believe it's not as bad as it use to be" I suggested,
knowing fully well it would be easier to convince Lucy to go in than convincing Charles to go elsewhere.
But with what I had just said, I had completely deteriorated Lucy's arguments and she stared at me with great disappointment on her face, I didn't look back at her so as to prevent her pouncing on me next.We made our way into the canteen and leading the group was Charles, walking as though bills were on him,
"good morning Ma" we all greeted Mummy Pete, the owner of the canteen, she were close friends with our parents and even closer to my mum because they had attended same catering school, "I heard about your mum Alex, please accept my condolence " she said, and this instantly brought back memories I was trying to forget,
When I was a kid, I and my mum would always come here to get fries and spend some mother and child time with each other, and the fact that all those were now memories made me feel bad."thank you so much ma, Lucy replied in my place as she noticed i had suddenly froze and was lost in my thought.
"You guys will go with your usual right " mummy Pete asked and we all nodded in agreement. I and Lucy would normally have fried potatoes and ketchup
While Charles would always settle for his fried plantains and eggs.We all sat and were served, and while we ate Charles made jokes of how good it would be if mummy Pete and Lucy were in-laws, I chuckled as Charles listed out things Lucy and mummy Pete had in common, and as if someone had called Pete, few minutes later we saw him walk in.
Hmmmm🤔
What's about to go down??
