Chapter 6

▪️Jongdae/Chen▪️

"What's that Chen? An invitation?"
Baekhyun saw me as I scroll through my e-mails.

I received an invitation in Imja High School. I didn't officially graduate from it because of my tight schedule as a trainee. However, they still gave me my certificate of completion. And now they are inviting me to attend our alumni homecoming after so many years.

"That is so nice hyung. You can get to see your old classmates, friends.." Kai said who was beside me.
"Or your crush.." Sehun added.
"Or even your ex-girlfriend." Chanyeol teased.
And all of them went wild.
"Yahh.. Stop it! Even if I had a girlfriend, that's none of your business. And besides, I can't even assure to attend this." I silenced the noise.
"Woohh our Jongdae had a girlfriend before. But you have Baechun now.. Ayeeh!" Baekhyun grinned and they became hyped again.

Baechun.. yeah she was an alumna. There is no way I won't see her there..and the rest of the group.
Changgu hyung.. and..
Jina.

"Don't worry Chen.. I'll find a way for you to attend that. Trust me."
That was Suho hyung.

Am I ready to meet them again?

Am I?

"So.. we're going to attend the homecoming Baechunie.. I've got to thank the president.. they will be busy that time for a survival show for the upcoming boy group."
Risa was too excited here in the coffee shop where my mom worked. I used to work part-time here but because of my work at JGS, I ended it.

" Are you excited Baechunie? "
" Me.. Mmm It seems like I don't want to join anymore Risa."
"Seriously? You know how hard it was for me to ask for permission but you won't go? What's wrong?"
I don't have the feeling of going back. It would be fun to see my old pals but it only brought me to the times when I was bullied and criticized. Though I have them around me but I still feel lonely all along.
" I just don't feel like going."
"Oh come on Baechunie.. I'm sure you would love to see our old friends..our clubmembers. Besides, you'll be with Changgu oppa right?"
With the mention of Changgu oppa, I checked if Mom was listening at the counter. She still doesn't know that Changgu oppa is nowhere to find. He sent me messages but I didn't know where he lives now..
" Changgu oppa might not attend."
"Oh why? Mmm but it's fine.. we'll get to see Seunghee unnie, Miyoung unnie, Junkyu oppa, Dohwan oppa, Hyunseok oppa, Jina unnie and ohh maybe Jongdae a.k.a Chen oppa too." There was excitement in Risa's eyes.
That's impossible. Someone as famous as Chen oppa is too busy to attend such events.

I am not scared to see him again but I don't think I am ready to show myself to him again.. as a lady and not just a little girl.

The night grew deeper and mom beside me is sound asleep. Soon, when I become an idol.. I won't be able to sleep beside her again.

I hope my dad's been doing well there in Imja. Our business wasn't doing well  since Changgu oppa left home and tried his luck here in Seoul. Both of us didn't get to go to college due to financial problems but that wasn't a problem at all. As long as we can live and we are still together, it's totally fine.

And after long years, fate told me to go home to Imja where my dream began.
Part of the fate is to see them.. to see Jongdae oppa as himself.. not as an idol Chen.
But how would we recognize each other?
Just like back in SME?

- Three years ago in SME -

After I introduced myself.. I knew Jongdae oppa recognized me so well. He surely remembered my weird and nerd appearance.

I called him after our meeting with the rest. I let Lyn unnie and Namji unnie leave the room first.
'I am happy to see you again Jongdae oppa. I never knew I would be here as your consultant."
Before he answered, he looked around. The other EXO members were having fun talking to one another.

" It's glad to see you again too. But I hope we treat each other here like we didn't meet before."
He smiled and went to his friends.

'... didn't meet before..'
'... didn't meet before..'

His smile stabbed me like a knife on my chest. Was he still the Jongdae oppa I knew or everything has changed as he started to be called Chen?

Why?

That really hurt our Baechunie.. But I am sure Jongdae had his reasons.
