You were at the masquerade standing near the corner of the room swaying to the music that was playing and watching the couples dance. You were enjoying listening to the music play, staring off into the distance not paying too much attention to your surroundings. Someone started to walk towards where you were standing and you didn't glance at them because you didn't recognize them right away.
"Well well well, if it isn't Y/n." Someone said. You turned your head and saw someone with a bone mask and horns. You looked at the rest of their outfit and realized they weren't wearing a costume, it was just Valdemar in their normal attire. You jumped a bit when you realized who it was. You had never really trusted valdemar, but there was something alluring about them.
"Oh! Valdemar, you can't just sneak up on people like that." You said. They gave a faint chuckle.
"There's no fun in that." They said while pressing the pads of their fingers together like they usually do."What are you doing here anyways?" You asked, still confused why they were talking to you.
"Am I not allowed to enjoy the masquerade?" They questioned.
"I didn't say that. I was just wondering why you weren't off causing trouble like usual?" You looked at them. You could barley see their red eyes through the mask they were wearing.
"Didn't feel like it at the moment. Anyways you looked sad in the corner, wanted to see what that's about." They said. You gave them an awkward smile.
"Thanks for that but I'm not sad in a corner." They laughed.
"Really? Cause that's how it looks. You're standing here alone, staring off into the distance obviously thinking about something. Did your date leave you or something?" They said with a chuckle at the end.
"No my date did not leave me... because I don't have one." They started laughing even more now.
"That's worse than I thought. I thought you'd have a date." They said in an almost mocking state. You were starting to get upset at this point.
"Oh yeah, well where's your date? Huh?" As soon as you said that they went quiet.
"Exactly." You said as you crossed your arms. They just looked at you. You were both silent for a few minutes.
"Look, seeing as neither of us have a date to the masquerade, how bout I be your date? Plus it looks like you want to dance." They said. You were confused why they would ask you this. You always thought they hated you, and you honestly don't trust them.
"I'm sorry, but I don't think that will work." You stated.
"Oh? And why not?" They questioned.
"Becuase you've tried to hurt me and my friends multiple times! how do I know you won't try to kill me tonight?" You asked frantically.
"Simple, I won't. I promise." That was all they said. How could you trust them.
"I swear on my life." They continued. You considered it for a minute, you didn't hate valdemar you just had major trust issues with them. Valdemar was Intresting to you and you sort of wanted to know more about them.
"Fine, but I'll hold you to your promise." You said, you couldn't tell what expression they had on their face because of the mask. They offered you their hand.
"Well then darling, the next song is about to start. Would you like to dance?" You nodded and the two of you headed to the dance floor. As you made your way there you noticed a lot of people were looking at you.
As soon as you got to the middle of the room the music started to play and Valdemar put their hand on your waist and held the other one, you put your free hand on their shoulder. Valdemar was leading, they spun you around the dance floor and held you close moving with you. You looked around and noticed that no one else was dancing, but they were all watching you two.
"Umm... they're all looking at us." You said in a hushed tone.
"Then let them look." You couldn't tell but if you had to guess, they were smiling under that mask they were wearing. You two continued to dance around the ballroom, Valdemar would spin you and occasionally lift you off the floor, but the song was slowly coming to an end and then they dipped you. The song ended and they helped you up. You were smiling, and honestly you were having fun. You started to walk to the back of the room with Valdemar following behind.
"That was actually really fun." You said with a smile. They looked down at the floor then back up at you.
"I'm glad you're having fun." You smiled again and nodded, then you started to fan yourself with your hand.
"Is it hot In here to you?" You asked. They nodded a bit.
"Well I'm going to go outside, would you like to come?" You asked.
"Of course." They offered you their hand and you two walked outside together.
When you got outside you walked over to the fountain and sat down. There was almost no one outside, so you decided to take your mask off. You didn't notice Valdemar looking at you, and you definitely couldn't tell that they were smiling. They sat down next to you, still keeping their mask on. You looked up at the sky and noticed how man stars were up there.
"It's beautiful isn't it?" You asked.
"Yes very." They said in response. You stood up on the fountains ledge and looked up at the sky.
"I just love the night sky. Its almost magical." You said while reaching toward the sky in a longing manner.
"Huh? Oh yeah, right, the sky. Yes the sky is beautiful, so many stars." They said. They looked at you and stood up next to you. You turned and looked at them.
They grabbed your hand and spun you around making sure you didn't fall into the fountain. When you stopped spinning you were facing Valdemar and they had their hand on your waist pulling you close. There was a little space between you two.
Valdemar slowly took off their mask and let it drop to the ground. With their free hand they put it on your cheek and leaned in to kiss you, and you did the same thing. Then your lips touched in a sweet kiss. You definitely made the right decision tonight.
