JOHNS POV
Summer camp. Something I was definitely not looking forward to. I looked over to my dad in the drivers seat. He's great. He supports all of us, no matter what.
He changes the music channel and some random pop song blasts through the speakers.
Soon enough we were pulling into a large forest with small signs decorating the road. I caught a small glimpse of one; it read 'Camp Yorktown'. Hmm. Weird name. Anyway, the road was pretty flat and you couldn't see anything other than trees.
Suddenly, out of no where, a horse ran out from the bushes and over the wall. My dad has to swerve the car and we both flew forward almost hitting my face on the dashboard. Just as the horse galloped into the woods three boys came sprinting up and over the wall following the horse.
'Well. That was... interesting.' I heard my dad chuckle. I've been waiting to get away for a while now, maybe take the elevated train to Washington heights or something, I always hear the music coming from that place. It always seems to be alive with the sound of music and smell of coffee. But when we saw the advertisement for summer camp my family thought it'd be good for me.
We pulled into a car park, the camp looked pretty big from here. I saw a boy, probably about my age, he looked deep in thought as I approached him.
"Erm, excuse me, do you know where check in is?" I spoke, as I tried to muster up as much courage as I could.
"Just over there, kid". He said back, acting as if he had anything better to do than talk to me. "I'm John Laurens, and you are?" I said as I stretched my hand out for him to shake. "Aaron Burr." He spat like I was trash. Okay, mental note: don't bother Aaron Burr.
I walked over to the building that Aaron Burr had directed me to. The building was one story, and quite large. I stepped inside, pulling my suitcase around behind me. I approached a desk with a middle age woman sat behind it. 'Martha Washington' her name tag read.
"Excuse me?"
"Oh hello dear! What's your name?" She asked with a soft gentle smile placed on her face. She was sweet. Hopefully all of the staff are like this.
"John Laurens"
"Hmm let me see. Oh! John Laurens, cabin 17. Your roommates are the best, you'll love them."
I sure hope I do. The worst thing would be to get stuck with horrible roommates. At this point I realised I'd been staring into space for a while, and quickly snapped myself back into reality.
"Thank you Mrs Washington"
"Oh please dear, call me Martha."
"Okay, thank you Martha!" I said giving her the biggest smile I could muster.
I walked back out of the reception area and looked all around me. No cabins. Actually nothing at all really. I scan the area around me for someone to ask, only to set eyes on Aaron Burr again. Surely I can't approach him again right? Well, it's the best I've got so I guess I have to.
"Sorry to bother you again Aaro-"
"Cabins are that way." He pointed up a hill whilst staring at his phone screen, not even bothering to look up.
"Oh. Okay then."
With that I set off up the hill, my head still buzzing with questions and worries about my new roommates.
Before I knew it I was standing in front of a cabin with the number 17 carved into the door. Do I knock? Or do I just go in? Wait, I have a key. I press my head against the door to try and hear if my roommates had already arrived. I hear a loud bang and muffled conversation, so yeah they've already arrived. I decide to knock because it would just be weird if I walked in on some weird shit from people I don't know. After a few seconds of shuffling and talking from inside the cabin, a boy, again about my age, opened the door. He was a only slightly shorter than me (but not by much). He had straight brown hair and deep, gorgeous brown eyes. Perfection. He looked as if he was sculpted by the gods.
