We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. | Plato
I sat in the kitchen that next morning looking over the paper when Rick walked in.
He stopped and looked at me.
I slowly looked up from the paper. “Are you ok?”
“Just odd that you are here and awake,” he said back to me as he went for a cup of coffee.
I narrowed my eyes back at him.
He poured himself a cup of coffee when his phone went off.
He looked down at the number then left the room.
I shook my head as I put my cup into the sink then went out to the garage.
I pushed the jacket to the side as I saw the bag on the bottom of the storage unit.
I bent down and grabbed the bag.
“What are you doing in there?” Rick shouted back at me.
I glared back at him as I put the bag back, “I was looking for something.”
“Get out of there. You know you aren't allowed in there! I don’t care your age, you don’t belong in there.” He shouted back at me.
I nodded my head as I unlocked the door to my car.
“Can you drive?”
I looked back at him as I slammed the car door shut.
I backed out of the garage and started toward the east side of town.
I sat on the hood of the car looking up at his apartment.
I looked down at my phone as McKenzie tried calling me again.
I locked the car as I went into the building.
The girl at the front desk smiled back at me. “You look good Lauren.”
I smiled back at her, “Thanks.”
She went back to the phone as I went to the elevator.
The 15th floor was the one place that his father’s money could buy.
I went out onto the floor when I could hear laughing.
I went down to his door as I knocked.
I looked back when I heard someone else open another door down the hallway.
I stepped to the side when his door was tossed open.
I looked back at the shirtless guy grinning back at me until he realized who it was.
“Holy fucking shit, this is ain't possible.”
I nodded my head as I went into the apartment, “Hey Alex, how are you doing?”
