Smiles on your thin lips,
lips that stole kisses from me at the back of the room,
rooms where you whispered words to me
three little words that undid all of me

Candlestick fingers encasing mine
hands i never plan on letting go despite time
hands that warm my skin and stroke my hair to sleep
embraces made of wishes come true

Promises whispered on soundless nights,
gifts given at the first break of light
walks with the dusk and dawn at our backs
with everything else that came to pass

I reach for a hand that never was there
I chase your kisses, a figment of imagination
the ghost of it all hits me like a train
and I fall apart, tears pouring like rain

for I've lived too long in all my dreams
and feelings that have made out memories
