Aang woke up early in the morning. He remembered last nights talk with Katara. Just the thought of it made him smile. He had a girlfriend, this was all very new to him he didn't know how to act. Aang spent most of his day training with Zuko, who by the way still had no clue about the news.
After training, he ate some lunch and waited for Katara at the river for some waterbending practice. He thought this would be a great time to sort out how or if they were going to tell everyone about their new romance.
"Hello, Aang!?" He heard katara's shout coming from the surrounding trees,
"I'm in the water over here!" He yelled. About 30 seconds later he saw her. She was wearing her normal swimwear but every time she did Aang thought she was the most stunning person in the world.
"There you are, how was training with Zuko?" Katara smiled and walked into the water towards him,
"It was alright, but I got charcoal all over my shirt again," Aang said pointing to the crumpled shirt on the edge of the river. This was his fire nation clothes because his old ones were burned in Ba sing sei.
"Well, why not leave them in the water to soak while we train," Katara placed his shirt in the water to sit and walked back about 2 metres away from Aang.
"Thanks, so last time you were showing me the hand move?" Aang asked,
"Right get in your stance." Aang got into his waterbending stance.
"Wow, great form Aang. The trick is focusing on the movement of your fingers, this way you can control the water to act as an extension of your own arm." Katara explained "like this," Katara bent the water up and started moving the fingers around making a peace sign with the fingers. Aang laughed, he practised the move a couple of times and he pretty much mastered it. He had a funny idea, he bent the water in both hands and extended it to Katara then he used the fingers to gently pull her in closer to him and gave her a kiss of the cheek. Katara blushed and smiled,
"You missed." She grinned,
"What do you mean?" Aang said smiling and raising an eyebrow. Katara pulled him in and kissed him on the lips wrapping her arms around his neck. The kiss finally broke and they got out of the water.
As they were drying off Aang remembered to ask Katara that question,
"Hey, Katara I just want to make sure if you wanted to tell everyone, if you don't want to I completely understand?" Aang asked standing up from the ground and putting on the wet shirt that he air-dried with bending.
"You know what. I thought about what happened last night a lot Aang and I trust you. Maybe this is an obstacle we will have to overcome in our relationship."
"Obstacle?" Aang said confused,
"Sokka, he's very protective over me he doesn't like when I even talk to boys and now I have a boyfriend who knows what he'll do," Katara explained. Aang gulped he didn't want Sokka to disagree, that would be a big problem for both of them.
"Well, I believe if we are meant to be, we will overcome all obstacles that get in our way, together." Aang smiled. Katara garbed his waist and hugged him.
"Sometimes your infinite wisdom is really cute ya know," Katara said, Aang giggled. It was starting to get dark so the two of them headed back to camp.
Zuko and Sokka were Lazing around.
Toph and Suki returned to camp with a bunch of firewood, Zuko lit the fire, Katara cooked the soup, Aang fed Appa and Momo while Sokka collected freshwater. Aang loved seeing everyone work together, this was his family and he wouldn't have it any other way, Aang wasn't worried about anyone else accepting Katara and his relationship except Sokka.
Katara served the soup to everyone and they all sat in front of the warmth of the fire. A couple of minutes passed when Aang looked over at Katara to double-check she was ok with him telling everyone, she gave him a reassuring nod. Aang started,
"Hey guys, I've got some important news." This caught everyone's attention. He continued,
"Well recently Katara and I started dating, and we thought it would be best if you all found out together-" Aang was cut off (again) in the middle of his sentence by Sokka.
"WHAT!!?!?" Sokka stood up and threw his soup away,
"YOU'RE DATING MY SISTER, AND YOU DIDNT ASK ME!!" Sokka was clearly about to tackle Aang when Katara stood in,
"Aang doesn't have to ask anything, I asked him to be my boyfriend and it was my decision, not yours!" Katara said death staring Sokka.
"YOU, ASKED HIM!" Sokka fell into Suki's lap, he had passed out.
"Finally, it took you guys long enough," Toph snorted as she continued to finish her soup.
"Yeah, you guys really dragged that one out forever," Zuko said still looking at his bowl.
"I'm sorry about Sokka, Aang I'm sure he'll get used to it," Suki said as she used her fans to cool down Sokka who was still unconscious in her lap.
"Yeah, Aang I'm really sorry. All I know is that I'm happy and nothing Sokka says is going to change that," Katara said as she moved closer to Aang and rested her head on his shoulder.
"Me too, though, I still want Sokka to be supportive," Aang admitted as he looked at Katara.
The fire started dying down and the Gaang were still talking, and Sokka still knocked out.
"NO, I WONT ALLOW THIS WHA-WHAT ARE YOU DOING KATARA GET YOUR HEAD OF HIS SHOULDER. AANG, IF YOU LAY ONE FINGER ON HER ILL-" Sokka had woken up and he was not happy,
"Oh look, snoozles is awake," Toph said leaning back on a rock she bent.
"I WISH I WASNT AWAKE BECAUSE THIS IS A NIGHTMARE!" Sokka stormed towards Aang causing him to jump up away from Katara. Aang jumped into a faraway tree and Sokka ran after him. Sokka attempted to climb the tree while yelling,
"WHEN I GET MY HANDS ON YOU YOU'RE DEAD!"
"SOKKA, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS. CAN YOU STOP TRYING TO KILL ME FOR A SECOND AND HEAR ME OUT!" Aang was trying to calm him down but Sokka had a plan.
"Ok." Sokka lied, he wasn't ok but he wanted Aang to come closer to him.
"Good, can you please understa-" Aang Landed on the ground only to be tackled by Sokka.
"AHHHH!" Aang yelled getting everyone's attention around the fire,
"Oh no!" They all said at the same time.
Toph used her earth bending to find the two of them. Sokka had tackled Aang to the floor and started fighting him.
"IM NOT GONNA FIGHT WITH YOU SOKKA!" Aang yelped, it was no use.
No one knew why he was so protective over Katara but who can blame him, it's his little sister.
"SOKKA STOP YOU'RE GONNA HURT HIM!" Katara bent some water and whipped Sokka.
"Toph didn't have to use much strength to pull Sokka up and away from Aang.
Aang scurried up to his feet he had a couple of cuts but Sokka mostly just pushed him around he obviously didn't want to kill Aang.
"Let me go Toph, I'm not finished with him!" Sokka said as he was trying to push towards Aang but Tophs grip was too tight.
"You hurt Aang! Why are you such a maniac Sokka? It's my life and you can't go chasing down whatever boy that talks to me!" Katara yelled giving him a shove, "are you ok Aang?" Katara was very worried she knew her brother was protective and that he wouldn't be happy about this but he's never done anything like this before.
"I'm ok Katara, don't worry about it," Aang said.
A couple of hours past and everyone went to sleep.
Aang woke up, He looked out his tent to find Sokka sitting and staring at the fire pit and moving around the ashes with a stick. Aang approached him, he had a cut on his lip and shoulder but that was all.
"I'm really sorry Aang I don't know what came over me," Sokka said when Aang sat next to him crossing his legs.
"It's ok Sokka, why were you so mad though. I understand she's your sister but I've never seen You do that with any other guys that have flirted with her?" Aang asked.
"Well... after the thing with Jet, I've always felt guilty. That was the one time I let my guard down and didn't attack him, and that was probably the one time I should have. Katara was so hurt after he betrayed her. It was like she lost the ability to trust, I made a promise to myself to never slip up again and try to stop any boys from going near her again. I just hate seeing her in pain and I know how hard it is to lose someone you love, so I thought if I removed boys from her life then she wouldn't feel like that again. But now I see that wasn't right and I shouldn't have lashed out." Sokka explained he seemed very disappointed in himself.
"Sokka it's ok, I know you're just trying to protect her. You're being a good brother, I'm not mad at you Sokka I understand." Aang said giving Sokka a pat on the shoulder.
"Thanks, Aang, I know you won't hurt her, because if you do I'll finish what I started." Sokka stared at Aang. Aang shifted to the side and stood up,
"Uhh.. okayyyyyy welp I'm gonna gooooo. See you tomorrow." Aang ran away to his tent and zipped up the door. Sokka laughed maybe Aang was the right one for Katara, but he was going to run a few tests before he would let is guard down.
