Chapter 15

Elijah Flints. That's the guy I chose for my first dance, I was going to pick Liam but unfortunately he was no where to be seen and Ahmed was busy eating and conversing with other guests so instead I asked Elijah who was more than happy to comply. Later on I'd have to explain to Liam why I didn't choose him; I knew he was going to be quite disheartened when found out.

The lights dimmed and the crowds fell into a hushed silence as I linked arms with Elijah and walked to the centre of the ballroom.

"May I do the honour of having this dance my lady," Elijah whispered and extended his hand for me to take.

I obliged and reached to join hands. "You may."

On cue the orchestra started playing classical ballroom music when our hands connected. The music was slow and peaceful, like a romantic tune. We started dancing and soon I forgot about everyone else in the room and it was only me and Elijah. No one else. I looked into his beautiful dreamy eyes as I gracefully danced. The look he was giving me didn't go unnoticed, he looked at me with such interest and only paid attention to me and my face throughout the whole dance. In that moment I wished to spend my whole evening with him and never leave his arms. The sudden desire of being in his arms came out of nowhere and so suddenly, was I really falling deep for Elijah?

Elijah broke the silence between us. "I know you've probably heard this a countless times already but I have to say you do look remarkably stunning Nina. Not just today but everyday."

I was so glad that the it was dark and the lights were dimmed out because I could feel my cheeks getting warmer and turning a light pink colour.

"Thank you Elijah. I'm really thankful I had my first dance of the ball with you. I do enjoy being in your presence," I faintly let out.

The music stopped and were left gazing deeply into each other's eyes. The lights immediately switched on which led us both to take a step back from each other and move our focus to the guests, who were supporting smiles on their faces. Amongst the crowd I noticed my parents with a look of approval, whereas Natalia looked like she had just witnessed a bunny being tortured.

Everyone saw the chemistry between Elijah and I. There was no denying that there was definitely strong attraction between us. 

Echoes of claps broke me out of my thoughts as more couples joined the dance floor. I decided to switch partners and dance with Liam next.

Liam twirled me around and looked at me with desire. "Woah Nina you look ravishing."

"As do you," I replied taking in the form of Liam in front of me. He looked handsome. He was disguised as Prince Charming from Cinderella.

I danced with many suitors for hours until I felt tired and took a well needed break.

"That was some dance." Natalia stated as she came and sat down in the chair next to me. Obviously she was referring to the dance between me and Elijah.

"I only chose Elijah because Liam was nowhere to be found and I didn't know about the whole first dance thing until ten minutes before the actual dance so I chose him." I said reasoning.

Natalia just rolled her eyes in response and walked away to talk to Elijah.

That's when it hit me. Between the dance and eating I had totally forgotten about a certain letter that I had read before. The woman in the silver dress, my aunt. I had to find her.
