"Wake up!" An unknown voice whispered in my ears.

Opening my eyes in alarm I frantically rushed out of bed, resulting in me falling on the floor with a loud thud. All I could see was darkness, there was no light. The sound of someone giggling loudly was enough to wake me up completely. Shaking away the sleep, I got up and averted my eyes to the feminine figure at the end of my room.

I grabbed the nearest object lying around and backed myself into a corner, apprehensive about the imminent danger I was in.

"Who are you?" I managed to say, letting out a shaky breath.

Slowly the shadow started moving towards me. As it edged nearer and nearer I started trembling with fear, scared that this may be the last breath that I take.

All I could make out were locks of curly hair and shiny jewellery worn on the woman's neck and fingers, which gleamed in the moonlight. It suddenly dawned on me that she may be not be an intruder after all.

Recognising the mask and blonde locks which were now on show due to the bright, little streaks of moonlight, I dropped the water bottle I was attempting to throw and instead moved closer.

"It's only me, Becky Tricks!" The figure spoke, removing the mask.

My aunts face glowed in the light. She looked surreal, as if she had magic supporting her brilliant, radiant complexion. Her usual happy demeanour had been replaced with a panic-stricken expression on her face. Something must be terribly wrong if she had to wake me up in the middle of the night.

How did she even get past security? I questioned to myself.

"That was easy, I didn't." She replied. Wait, could she read minds or did I say that out aloud?

"There's no point lying and saying you said that out aloud to help you feel better about this situation, I can read minds," she stated, "I never got to finish what I wanted to tell you the other day at the ball and it's really important. It couldn't wait, so I invited myself over."

"What do you mean you didn't get past security? Don't tell me you're some kind of a witch who used a portal." I replied, adding slight humour to the conversation. However, Becky didn't seem to find it funny, her expressions remained serious.

"No. I'm not a witch," she paused. "But I am a fairy."

My aunt was a fairy! I mean it made sense since my mother was one before she married Blake, my father. Does that mean my grandparents are also fairies?

"Yes and no." She answered. "When fairies turn sixty-five, their wings disappear and fix themselves on a newborn baby."

"The wings shrink in size and change patterns according to the baby, they grow with the infant and soon reveal their real sizes at the peak of adulthood." Becky continued as she turned on the lights to my room, resulting in me squinting my eyes at the sudden brightness

"So the wings recycle themselves?" I questioned.

Becky nodded her head. "Basically, yes. They're quite clever. Anyways to answer your question, your grandparents (my biological parents) can still practice magic. They just can't transform anymore."

"Oh right, so what are you doing here then?" I asked her.

She plopped herself on the nearest armchair. "I came here to tell you about our family's history, but it seems like you already know."
