IT HAD BEEN a week. Jacob had developed a habit of texting her occasionally to check in with her and ask about Bella. He would joke around and ask if the young girl had sunken her teeth into the brunette yet. And Sadie would not lie and say she had not grown accustomed to checking her phone for the sole purpose of seeing his messages pop up.

Sadie had been trying to keep her interactions with Bella as limited as possible. Not necessarily ignoring her, but keep their interactions to five minutes, max.

It seemed as though anytime they talked, Bella continuously tried to bring up Edward and where he was. Sadie could not keep making up excuses for her brother. So instead, she tried to dodge the girl as much as she could until he came back. A poor solution to a poor situation.

She walked down the hallway and into the library, deciding that she would rather not go to lunch with her siblings and instead just hang out in the the quiet space.

As she headed over to the fiction section, her head shot to her right as she caught a glimpse of a familiar head of shaggy brown hair. She walked over quickly, her teeth gritted in spite. "Where have you been?" she asked her brother as she turned the corner, emerging from behind a bookshelf.

Edward jumped back, slightly startled to see the young girl come out of nowhere. "Hello to you, too." he muttered and continued to look around at the books as though it were no big deal.

"Dad told me you were somewhere in Alaska?" she said. It came out more as a question, however. Solely because she still could not believe his tantrum had led him to such a bizarre place so quickly.

"Oh, so you already knew." Edward pursed his lips with a bored tone.

Sadie snatched the book straight out of his hands, finally making him look up at her. Or, down, perhaps. "What did you do to Bella before you left?" she asked.
