i'm currently working on 44 for all of you to read, but really needed to get this out there.
i acknowledge that i've grown to have a decent platform on here with 45k reads and over 800 votes. i don't know how many readers that actually translates to but i know it's a lot.
a few days ago, as many of you may already know, George Floyd was unjustly murdered by Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin. According to surveillance footage, George was not resisting arrest. he had a knee to his neck for over 8 minutes.
8. minutes. and was unresponsive for over two of those.
police brutality is, and has been (for a while), a major issue across the country for our black community. george floyd, breonna taylor, and trayvon martin are only a few of the many black individuals killed by police.
decades and decades of civil rights movements, protests, and calls for reform... and yet here we still are. plagued by covert and overt racism.
enough is enough. it's time to fight for change and let our voices be heard. these are just some of the many things you can do:
- spread awareness/continue to educate yourself on the the movement - donate to freedom funds/black lives matter chapters around the country - sign the "Justice for George Floyd" petition on change.org - text FLOYD to 55156 - text JUSTICE to 668366 - contact Minneapolis/Minnesota government officials and your own local government officials

lastly, if any of you try to justify what those officers did in any way, just do me a favor and stop reading my story. i would rather not have support from anyone who refuse to acknowledge the gravity and seriousness of police brutality. thanks.
