After several weeks of studying together, one morning she met Malfoy at the library and started looking at new spells with him
"What does the flipendo do?"
"It twirls the person you launch it against, after throwing him or her in the air of course"
She was without any doubt proud of him and his progress
"Good Draco"
Hermione had been surprised by the boy's studying skills. He indeed had a very good memory, after all he was an ambitious slytherin. The girl decided to move on to the next chapter of the book but turning the page, their hands touched and Hermione immediately retired hers.
"Ehm, sorry"
Malfoy smirked. He luckily had been oblivious, or at least she hoped he had, about her sudden interest in him. He didn't notice the way she flinched overtime he touched her, her reactions to his behavior or the way she would lose herself fantasizing or lost in his voice when he spoke.
When the lesson was over and they were about to leave, at once a bookshelf fell and they both jumped away not to get hurt. Suddenly, after tumbling on the floor, Malfoy found himself on top of the girl, shielding her from the books that were still falling.
As soon as everything was clear, he lifted his head and his eyes, mere centimeters apart, met hers.
Draco in that moment would have wanted to kiss her, and Hermione too, but just like the first time that the girl had fallen, they remained still, looking deeply in each other's eyes.
The girl felt Draco's breath on hers and the distance between them was ridiculously scant, although this time there was a difference from when it had happened in the hallway, they knew one another.
He no longer was a stranger
Realizing this, she smiled and slightly opened her mouth moving upwards. That kiss would have finally broke the tension between them, it was what both desired but were never brave enough to do. They had hated each other for so long without a reason and finally now Hermione had discovered that the path from hate to love was shorter than from friends to lovers.
Draco brought his hand on the girl's neck but without stopping to look into her eyes, his heartbeat felt like a hammer in his chest. He also couldn't stop thinking about Hermione. Every thought or action, she was there. Always and annoyingly there. He had passed years discriminating her just for her bloodline and now that the war was over, nothing could have stopped them for coming together, (except his father of course), but in that moment he wasn't there. A lot of bad thoughts passed at light speed through his mind but at last he had finally found the courage to lean in and kiss her.
When their mouths were about to collide however, someone entered, attracting Hermione's attention, who immediately turned and pushed the blonde away.
~ fuck, so close ~
thought Draco
"Ron.. Ron wait"
She stood up and ran towards the red headed boy, leaving Draco alone. He felt almost betrayed by the girl, for the first time in his life he had opened to someone, telling her about the threats his family had received from the dark lord and about the time he was about to kill Dumbledore.
He stays there, unmoving, lying on the floor. The worst part unfortunately for him had yet to come because in the distance someone was approaching
"Father..."
