On her way, Hermione heard some noises from a bathroom nearby. She entered slowly and noticed a lot of water on the ground.
"Draco is that you?"
Frozen water soaked the soles of the tapered brown shoes she wore. The floor of the room was in fact completely wet and illuminated only by the light from the window in front of the sink, on which the boy was resting with both hands. Seeing him in that position reminded Hermione of the story the chosen one told her the first time he'd cast the Sectunsempra spell against the weeping Draco, who was currently leaning against the sink in the same way Harry had described it to her. He was even in the same bathroom where the two had fought!
The slytherin was sobbing and the curly distant gryffindor still managed to hear his continuous laments. At that moment she realized how much she cared about the blond, since seeing him feel bad she felt her heart hurting. He frowned when he saw her and she consequently decided to draw attention to herself. As soon as he heard Granger call his name, he lifted his face and eyes to the mirror and then turned to her and tried to fix his messy platinum hair with his hand.
Looking at his face, Hermione felt even more devastated: his delicate blonde locks were all disheveled with tears, his face was sworn, torn with tears and ruined by a black eye. He had definitely been crying. His face, like the girl's one, was consumed by tears.
"What happened?"
"None of your business"
~ god Granger, you think you are so smart .. how can you not understand that I am doing all this for you ?! ~
In fact, he decided for the girl's sake not to succumb to emotions, he had to break away from her as soon as possible to avoid feeling too much pain.. he would do anything to not overcome or reach his limit of endurance.
In all truth, he wanted to kiss her.
He wanted to reassure her by telling her that as long as they were next to each other everything would be fine and that nothing bad would happen to her. But above all he wanted to tell her, or rather scream at her, that the two of them would find a way to work it out despite the consequences of this wicked actions. Yet he couldn't do it without risking the life of everything he cared about at the moment: Granger.
That damn girl who had always been insufferably smarter than him, who beat him in everything, who freaked him out, who had always been the only one to reject him and who literally drove him crazy.
He would have wanted to kiss her strongly and tell her that no matter what his father would've done, he would've stayed near her, but he couldn't... not if by doing this he would have risked Hermione's life.
Hermione hated being left in the dark about what had happened to him but for Draco she would have been willing to do this and more... why?
Because she loved him.
The boy wanted to pass her without saying anything, avoiding suffering, but he didn't. He had to make her understand that staying away at any cost, there was no middle ground.Just a few centimeters away he stopped, avoiding physical contact between the two bodies and looked straight into her eyes: at that moment the hazelnut color of hers mixed with the cold icy chromatic tone of his.
Shortly before speaking, he bit his lip and made it bleed, he wanted to punish himself for the harm he was about to cause to the girl he loved, a tear in his eye almost escaped
"There is nothing between us"
With tears in her eyes she grabbed his arm, pulling it and tried to attract the boy to her, starting to cry panting and contorting her face to avoid making faces due to multiple tears.
"No, please don't do this to me, I won't let you go away like this again, Malfoy I will .."
Hermione screamed desperately crying and sobbing.
Despite the words pronounced by the curly hair, however, he interrupted her by frowning slightly to avoid any reaction not suitable for the coldness that he should have shown, (and that he did show), in front of the brunette.
At that moment the boy had to appeal to all the strength he had in his body to prove himself unbothered. The girl in front of him tugged at the blond who, realizing that she had never shown herself as vulnerable as now, took advantage of the moment to hit her weak spot.
"Leave me, dirty mudblood!"
He yelled trying to convey a huge load of hatred by yanking his arm out of the gryffindor's grasp and walking away at a very fast pace, running away from her soon after.
He cried as soon as he was out of Hermione's field of vision, Draco would have wanted to disappear at that moment, if he had been in the Granger he would have seriously Avadakedavrized himself.
He was an idiot but he would do what he had just done 2,000 more times. Sadness could've been feeled in his voice, but the words he had pronounced were slowly tearing Hermione apart. When Draco left she stayed there, in that bathroom, crying, like the first year, alone.
When she thought there wouldn't have been no more obstacles between her and Draco now that Ron knew the truth, now the snake didn't want her anymore.
