Chapter - 12

We ignore truths

It has been almost 15 hours but still there was no news about the operation. Whenever any doctor or nurse came out of the surgery room  Ethan got nothing but silence as an answer from their side. Even after his desperate attempts to know about his beloved's condition or even knowing her condition by getting a glimpse of her from the small glass on the door turned out be fruitless.

They were currently in the pack hospital of the nearest town of their pack. Grace was currently under treatment. Devin went to do the paperwork of the hospital along with Aaron who had to bring some ice bags to minimize his and Eleanor's swelling caused in the fight, which left Eleanor, Haven and Ethan alone in the corridor.

Haven was sitting on one of the hospital benches with many emotions reflecting through her eyes. She slowly glanced at Eleanor who was busy glaring at the wall in front of her with her hands folded on her chest. She sighed and changed her position, with her head against the wall, looking at ceiling and thinking about the pain caused to the ones she cared for and that too because of her.

A small traitorous tear escaped from her eyes, she hurriedly wiped it up but another came rolling down her cheeks and another and soon it became a constant flow of them. She lowered her eyes in shame while her body shook with silent tremors.

After a while she slowly composed herself and turned her head to look at the hospital door. Her stomach churned with guilt which was proving to be an agonizing torture.

Unable to look at the door anymore she diverted her eyes from the room where Grace was being treated and her eyes met a pair of eyes devoid of any mischief or playfulness that once shone through them. Now these eyes only held a kind of emptiness which scared her. It has been a month since Haven met this man, whom she never imagined to be like this.

Ethan stared at her for a moment before slightly shaking his head at her and turned his head away from her view. Hot tears rolled down her cheeks thinking why couldn't she be a normal person like others? Why did she even stay here when she knew the demons lurking around her, following her every step, waiting for the perfect moment to destroy her along with everyone else she cared for?

Upon sensing the arrival of the two men,she quickly wiped her tears and lowered her head so that no one can see her face.

Aaron gave one of the ice bags to Eleanor and made her sit on the nearby bench whereas Devin walked straight to Ethan and hugged him tightly to which Ethan let him do it. He was numb for a second but as if someone broke the leftover courage in him, the tears finally flowed through his eyes while loud sobs racked his body. Devin made him sit while whispering comforting words to him which fell  on Ethan's deaf ears. 

Hearing the heart-wrenching sobs even Eleanor had tears in her eyes. She slowly looked towards Ethan's side. Lots of unwanted emotions rushed towards her. She wanted to kill the man who was responsible for hurting the ones she deeply cared for, for hurting her family but unfortunately that bastard got away before she could do anything. She averted her eyes from him and met a pair which she has grown to loathe deeply. The tears which had gathered in her eyes were gone and were replaced with anger, hatred, and disgust.

Eleanor had fixed her eyes on Haven's face with vengeance evident in her glare. The more they stared at each other the more intense her glare got ,which only fuelled her thoughts about her being responsible for everything.

'She knows it is my fault, something others can't seem to see. I wish they realise this soon and let me go far away from here.'

With this thought in her mind Haven broke their eye contact first and lowered her eyes in shame.

After what felt like centuries the doors to the operation room finally opened and all the doctors and nurses came out of it with smiling faces.

The head doctor stayed back to fill them in about Grace's condition.

Ethan stood up from his seat as if it was on fire and rushed to the doctor.

Haven watched the scene from a distance. Ethan's face lit up when he heard that Grace was out of danger and everyone else breathed in relief.

But when the doctor paused and all of a sudden his face became serious, gave Haven a bad feeling about what he was going to say.

And that's what happened. The moment the doctor said the words, Ethan's breath hitched while others gasped in shock. Even Haven felt her world crumbling down when she heard that news.

So what do you think the doctor said?? Is it the end of something or just the beginning for the bigger things??
What about Haven? How will she handle the mishappening happened to Grace knowing that she was the sole reason for this? Will it further complicate her already secret ridden life?

It was like a filler chapter. Now the plot thickens.
