Urgh that noise, what is it? It's too irritatingly loud.
It's my phone. where is it?
Where is Nathi?"Hello," I respond with my eyes still fully shut.
"Don't tell me you're still sleeping," he chuckles.
Ofcourse I'm still sleeping. It's clearly very early to wake up.
Why is he calling me anyway, where is he?
"I was still sleeping but you woke me up," I yawn.
"It must be that you kept me awake the entire night, yhu, I didn't know you were that wild. Even with that big belly," I can tell he's smiling.
I couldn't get enough of him, don't blame me, blame his.......
"Where are you?" I change the subject and snuggle more on my puffy pillow.
"Work."
Huh, what time is it? I flutter my eyes open and I gasp in awe when I realize the sun is brightly dancing and showing off itself.
"You are still sleeping at 12o'clock?" he laughs.
WHAT? I managed to sleep that long?
"Why didn't you wake me?" I question and make my way to the balcony, smoothly welcoming the gentleness of the soothing heat and bright colour of the sky.
"You were so peaceful, Sthandwa, I didn't wanna wake you up since I did a number on you," he laughs.
Nathi for you.
"Will you ever grow up? You are a 29 year old man for heavens sake," I tease him.
"Nope, as long as you're part of my life, I'll be a baby."
He's stupid.
I giggle and the baby kicks."Your child is kicking me," I sulk.
"Go feed him, he's hungry."
"Her! It's a girl Nathi," I whine.
"Okay baby, her. Go eat, I'll come check on you in about three hours. I love you."
"I Love you too," I smile.
Let me go freshen up so I can make myself a feast.
My baby must be starving.
My phone rings just as I finsh my huge sandwich.
I smile thinking it might be Nathi but an unfamiliar number appears instead.
"Hello?"
"Yebo ntombi, it's Sbongiseni," he breathes.
Sbongiseni?
"Oh, unjani buthi?"
Where did he even get my digits?
"I'm alright. Please come outside, I'm here to fetch you. We have to go somewhere," he announces.
Where? Nathi didn't utter anything about his brother fetching me. So what's this all about?
"Okay, does Nathi know?" I question curiously.
"Yes, he's the one who sent me."
That's so unlike Nathi, but maybe he did.
Why didn't he call though?
Sbongiseni wouldn't lie, right? I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and trust him."Okay, can I just change into more comfortable shoes." I question making my way up the stairs.
"Alright, take your time."
He hangs up.------------------
Seriously this is frightening and worrying me. Nathi hasn't called at all and this car loses network by every passing second.
I finally come to a decision of not trusting him at all.
I asked a couple of times where we were heading but he kept saying I shouldn't worry. I've never been comforable with Nathi's older brother, his just always serious and tense.
My worries escalate when we enter the groval dusty road of Thembelihle at Lenasia.
I've been reading the road signs just in case he decides to drop me off somewhere I'm not aware off and might probably need to have to come back by my very own two feet.
Too many populated shacks surround the entire dusty area and that makes me anxious. I need Nathi.
"We are here," he smiles mockingly.
The car hits stop right in front of a yellow coloured shack that has no fance around.
I'm confused.
"What are we doing here?" I shakily question glaring at him.
"I think you should go inside to find out," he mutters grimly.
He wants me dead.
I can't breathe.
"It's okay, Busi, you're safe. I won't let anyone hurt you. Just go inside, it's safe," he smiles.
Okay, I don't trust him, he woldn't hurt me, right? but why should I go inside there all alone?
I nod my head anyway and head out.
Breathe and out.
"I'll be right here okay." He reassures.
I nod again and move forward.
Oh lord, I beg of you to protect me and I beg that Nathi finds me before anything bad happens.
Just before I find myself the courage to knock on the rusty metal door it cracks open and I freeze in my spot.
Who could that be behind the door?
"I'll be right back, ma," this lady shouts as she makes her way out.
I move backwards to make a way for her and she turns around and gasps. It's so obvious I startled her, though what I witness with my very two eyes is just so unreal and trust me when I say I wasn't prepared for this day, not one bit.
"Busisiwe?" she questions with a choked voice and her hands nestle her chest.
She looks pained and her face looks like she's just seen a ghost.
I'm definitely the one seeing a ghost.
I think I'm hallucinating. It's just a ghost, it's not her.
I furiously shake my head In disbelief.
"Mamma?" I choke out, embracing my belly by circling my arms around.
Tears cloud her amazed eyes and she shakes her head while attempting to touch me but I step back.
I shake my head, "It's not her," I keep whispering to myself and shaking my head.
"It's not her," I yell looking her straight in the eye and she defeatedly crys, letting her tears blind her eyes.
My knees finally make contact with the dusty rocky ground and I finally let her touch me.
My head buzzes with unfamiliar noises and I scream to make them disappear but it's not working, instead it gets worse by every second. She embraces me into a hug and utters something but I can't make out her words.
I'm shaking, I can't breathe. I need to breathe.
"Why the hell did you bring her here Sbongiseni?" It's Nathi, I can hear his voice echo from a far.
Breathe, Busi, breathe.
I can't, I can't breathe, I'm suffocating.
"Busisiwe," Nathi's arms finally embrace me into comfort.
That's the last thing I hear before my vision gets blurry.
Is Busisiwe really seeing a ghost or her mother is actually alive?
