"Its midnight
And I'm
Lying here
Crying about
Nothing,
But at the
Same time
It's everything.Nothings wrong,
But nothing's
Right either"_________
Hanna
_________It was late in the afternoon when the SUV pulled to a stop in front of a wrought-iron gate.
Anticipation bubbled underneath my skin. I scooted to the edge of the seat, trying to fulfill the curiosity that I was feeling. The gate was large. If I were to wager a guess, it was at least ten feet tall and seemed to go on for miles. I was so entranced by the gate, I didn't notice that King Alexander and King Xavier had gotten out of the car till the doors closed with a loud bang. When I saw what they were doing, I unbuckled and moved to leave the car, but was quickly stopped by Mr. Johnson.
"Stay in the car, Luna Hanna. They are just opening the gate." He said.
I took my hand off the handle and moved closer to the right-hand-side window to see what the Kings were doing. King Alexander stood in front of the gate holding keys. He was in the middle of unlocking the many locks while King Xavier unwrapped the heavy-duty chains that were wrapped around it intensely. It was very secure and I wondered why they kept it locked up so tightly.
Seeing as it would take them a while to unlock the gate, my attention turned to the large shadowy building off in the distance. I was still a ways away from it, so I couldn't get a good grasp on how big it was but it didn't strike me as being a castle. It was longer in length and had normal roofs. There were no towers or giant stone walls that blocked it from the outside world. It didn't have a mott or a drawbridge. It looked like a house.
It was not only surrounded by the gate, but by a grassy field and trees. There was a tone of space and it provided some much-needed privacy for those of our kind. Unlike most supernatural species in our world, we needed seclusion. While Witches could walk around in their own skin, we had two skins. Vampires, too, could walk around as themselves, but had to be careful with their pale skin. And the Faeries had their own world. They didn't need to worry about hiding. Us Werewolves did. We hid in plain sight. Shifting into our human skin and pretending to be one of them. We needed a secluded place to shed our skin and shift. Humans couldn't know about us. And our privacy assured that they wouldn't.
When we were young pups, we were taught the history of our kind and why we had to hide who we were from the world. We grew up with stories of Romulus and Remus and how they were the first of our kind. We were told bedtime stories of our Goddess, Luperca, and how she was the one that raised Romulus and Remus. I knew very little about my history. I didn't get the luxury of being told bedtime stories about them. And what I did learn and come to know was associated with my time with him. And I refused to think about anything that was associated with him.
The car lurched forward, shocking me. I grabbed onto the passenger seat and driver seat to save myself from being flung forward.
"Luna!" Mr. Johnson scolded. "I told you to put your seatbelt on."
I gave him a sheepish smile. "Sorry, I guess I didn't hear you."
Quickly, I put the seatbelt on and looked up. The gates were open and we were driving through. The Kings were standing on the sides of the road.
"What are they doing?" I asked, wondering why they weren't in the vehicle. Once we passed through the open gates, the car stopped again.
"They have to shut the gate, Luna Hanna. It isn't going to close by itself."
