"Alright, I'll talk to you soon, mami. Te quiero mucho!" I say to my mother. "Yo también te quiero bebe. Adios!" She said. "Adios." I say. Then I hang up the phone. I put my phone on the car charger and put my seatbelt on.
My name is Mario Chavez. I'm 25 years old and as you can probably tell, I'm Ana's fiancé. I'm Costa Rican. I was born and raised here in California, but my mother was born and raised in Costa Rica. Her first language wasn't English. So I was always speaking Spanish to my mom 9 times outta 10. I have one sister named Eliana and she's 16. I also have a 13 year old brother named Julian. Yeah, I'm the oldest and it sucks.
Anyway, I was leaving work when my mom called. She just wanted to talk because she missed me. My mom is the best. She'll randomly call me just to hear my voice. It's been that way since I moved out. She was so excited when she found out Ana was pregnant. My mom loves Ana and that makes me happy because she's so hard to please.
I'm a tattoo artist and I work at this cool little shop not too far from where Ana and I live. My dream is to have a dope tattoo shop of my own someday. Don't get me wrong, I love the shop I work at now. I just think it would be good to have my own shit, ya feel me? I've been wanting it for the longest.
Before I knew it, I was home. I mean, I was a pretty fast driver, let Ana tell it. I got out of the car and locked the my vehicle. I walked past Ana's little blue Jeep. I wonder if she went into work today.
Ana had the best job in the world. Well, in my opinion. She worked at a daycare. Even though she was getting paid good over there, she still had a little side hustle. Making YouTube videos was another one of her hobbies. Ana was such a beautiful soul, inside and out. She was kind, smart, and very very nurturing. For somebody who's only expecting her first child, Ana was extremely good with children. That's why I couldn't be any happier to be having a child with someone like her.
When I got in the house, I could smell the sage. Ana must've just got done meditating. That's what she normally did. I heard Jhene Aiko coming from our bedroom so that's where I headed. When I got in there, I saw the love of my life. This pregnancy had her glowing. Her hair was wrapped up in a towel and she was dressed in a white crop top, her growing belly exposed, and grey leggings.
"Hi, baby!" Ana says, walking over to me. I wrapped my arms around her waist and kissed her forehead. Then, I kissed her softly on the lips. "Hey, mama. You look so cute." I say to her. She smiled from ear to ear. That was the smile I fell in love with. I loved seeing her happy. It warmed my heart. "Thank you, my love!" She says.
"So, how you feeling?" I asked her. I took a seat on our bed and watched my fiancé light some candles. "I feel good! How about you, how was work?" She said. "Work was good actually. I had a good day." I tell her. "That's good, baby!" She says. I couldn't help but notice that my baby was in such a good mood today. "You seem like you're in a good mood today." I said. "I am. I had a great day!" Ana tells me. I smiled. "That's good, mama. You went to work today?" I said. "Yeah but only for a few hours." She says. "Oh okay. That makes sense." I say. "So, I went to the store today and picked up some cute things for you and the baby." Ana says, running to the closet. "Ooh, for me? What you get for me?" I say, surprised. Ana makes her way over to the bed and gave me a shopping bag. I open the bag and inside are 2 Nike boxes. A big box and a little box. "Open the box!" Ana presses. I could tell she was excited. When I opened the box, I was speechless. In the box, was a pair of neon green Air Force 1's. I been tryna get these shoes for the longest.
"No way, bro." I said, covering my face. "Do you like them?" Ana says. "Baby, I love them! How'd you get these? It said they were sold out on the website." I said. "I preordered them online like a month ago and I picked them up today in the store." Ana says. "Come here, mama." I say, pulling her close to me. I sat her on my lap and kissed her. "Thank you so much, baby. I love them." I tell her. She smiled at me. "You're welcome. I got matching shoes for baby Mateo, too." She says. "We're naming him Mateo?" I asked. "If you wanna name him Mateo, babe." Ana said. "How about Mateo Sebastian?" I suggested. "I love it." She says. I smiled.

"So, we're naming him Mateo Sebastian." I tell my sister. "Aww, because Mario's fathers name was Sebastian, right?" Ariel says. I nodded my head. "Yup." I said. "That's so cute. I love it." She said. I smiled. "Thanks, sissy!" I say.
It was almost 10 pm. Ari and I have been on FaceTime for almost an hour now. Ariel and I talk about any and everything. It's always been like that with us. We were inseparable since birth.
"P said her first word today." Ari tells me. "Aww, really?" I gushed. "Yeah. Of course she had to say 'Dada'. I'm so annoyed." My big sister fumed. I laughed. "We knew she was a daddies girl." I said. "I know, you ain't gotta say it." "She still loves her mama, though." I assured her. "Of course." Ari says. "I want you and Gia to plan my baby shower." I said. "Really? Oh my God, wait until I tell Gi. She's gonna be so happy." Ari said. I smiled. "I know. I mean, I figured since I don't have any female friends. And y'all have both had kids." I said. "Ima make a group chat." My sister says. "Okay cool." I say. "I gotta go feed P. She's cranky. I'll call you tomorrow, I love you, mija." Ariel said. "I love you too. Goodnight." "Goodnight." I then hung up the phone.
