Maiko's pov

Shiori, Nyoko and I stood stood in front of the team. Tears were making their way but I tried not to let them fall.

"So," Shiori cleared her throat, "We all know that it's our official retirement today. I am proud to call myself the captain of such a capable and skilled team. Working with everyone, watching each one of you grow, it has been a beautiful experience. You will hear this a lot but when I say this was the best team I've played with, I mean it. I entrust each and everyone of you to carry the pride of Shiratorizawa with you and pass it down to the new members that join in. It has been a ride and I will miss all of you so much. Nomura Sadako!"

"Yes, Captain!"

"I pass down the responsibilities of being a captain to you. I hope you take good care of the team."

Sadako's eyes started to tear up, "Y-yes! I won't let you down!"

"S-sato Hanami!" I called out, a tear falling down my cheek, "Please do your best in representing Shiratorizawa as the new ace."

"Yes! Thank you so much, Koba-san!"

They bowed down, "Thank you for your hard work!"

I started to cry at those words. I wiped my tears almost immediately. We had already played our last match with the before the speech. Now it was time to play with the boys.

We went to their gym.

"Are you ready boys?" I smirked taking off my jacket.

"I won't go easy on you just because you're my girlfriend." Wakatoshi said with a smug.

"I won't either,"

Well they won in the end. But it was fun and for the last time we cleaned the gym and locked it.

Farewell, my paradise.

Before we knew it we were done with our final exams and it was graduation week. The last week at Shiratorizawa Academy. On graduation day, which was the first day if that week, all of us had garlands around our necks, a bouquet in our hands and tears in our eyes. We took countless pictures in every place that had even the smallest amount of meaning.

In between our celebrations, I snuck out for a moment to make a phone call,

"Hello?"

"Maiko! I never thought you would call me. How are you? Isn't it your graduation today? Do you want me to pick you up and brin-"

"It's fine. I called you because I didn't want to call my mother and you are her husband. I'll be staying at a friend's place and when I hear from my university, I'll be moving to Tokyo. I'm only telling you this as a formality of sorts. You can tell my mother, I don't care. After this, I don't want to have any kind of relationship with the two of you."

"Okay. Thanks for telling me, at least. I understand why you want to do so and I respect your decision. All the best for your future endeavours, Maiko. But if there comes a time that you need help, don't hesitate to give me a ring okay. Bye, dear."

"Bye,"

....

The next day, everyone was gathered in the cafeteria with the radio turn up.

"Now we will be announcing the Volleyball boys' national team participants."

I held Toshi's hand and he tightened his grip. We heard a few names and with each name that was not his, I could feel his heart beating faster.

"Ushijima Wakatoshi from Miyagi!"

The whole cafeteria went crazy. I hugged Wakatoshi as I squeeled almost deafening him. I kissed his cheek, but he didn't seem to have any reaction. 

"TOSHII!! YOU GOT SELECTEDD! AREN'T YOU HAPPY?"

"They still have to announce the girls' team." He said with no expression on his face.

"And now, the girls' team. Watanabe Nana from Tokyo." The cafeteria went quiet again.

I smiled as her name was announced. I was still holding Toshi's hand my eyes closed. I felt a hand in my shoulder, probably Nyoko.

"Adachi Nyoko from Miyagi."

We screamed at her name being announced. I hugged her tightly.

"Kobayashi Maiko from Miyagi."

I was immediately tackled to the ground with so many people hugging me.

"Please....i....too heavy!" I managed to say. Everyone got off me.

Wakatoshi picked me up. My legs wrapped around his waist.

"WE'RE GOING TO THE NATIONAL TEAM!" He yelled with the widest smile on his face.

"HELL YEAH BABY!" I kissed him and everyone hooted and cheered. I pulled away and looked him in the eyes.

Ushijima's pov

This was happiness.

This was euphoria.

My smile.

"So, what's your decision?"
