3 Years Later
The house sat in the middle of the cul-de-sac, positioned perfectly between two other houses, creating the perfect picture of cozy suburban life. The front lawn was perfectly mowed and landscaped, a prologue to the small, quaint front porch that led to the front door. The proverbial white fence surrounded the spacious two-story home, as well as sectioned off the backyard from the undeveloped land behind the property.
Inside, Cho Misaki carefully made her way from the kitchen, carefully maneuvering her way through the stacks of unpacked boxes positioned all around the room, as well as the adjoining dining area and family room, and towards the opened patio door that led to the back deck. “Thirsty?” she called to the figure lounging on the top step of the deck.
Kyuhyun glanced back at her, grinning. “Very!” he replied, noticing the cold bottle of soju in one of her hands.
Misa handed him the bottle as she joined him on the steps. “Moving really makes you realize how muh stuff you can accumulate over the years,” she commented, gesturing to the mess inside. “Think we’ll ever get unpacked?”
Kyuhyun laughed. “Eventually,” he said, taking a sip from his bottle. “I’m not in a rush.”
“You’re never in a rush when it comes to unpacking, anata,” Misa teased. “Remember how long it took for you to unpack in our new apartment after we got married?” Nearly after a year, there had still been two or three boxes of his stuff pushed into the corners of the living room, their bedroom and their closet.
Her husband scoffed. “I was busy then!” he protested. “There never seemed to be any time!”
“Whatever, anata!” she muttered, giggling.
“You married an idol, angel,” he teased. “I’m always going to be busy with one thing or another, you know. Present day included.”
“Hey, just because you’ve decided to try your luck at acting now doesn’t excuse you from helping me out, Kyuhyun!” she countered, kicking him lightly in the shin. “You’re not filming everyday. Besides, I think most of the boxes are yours!”
He threw an arm around her shoulders. “Ours, angel,” he corrected, smirking. “We share everything now, remember? Including that mess in there.” He pointed back into the house.
Misa grinned. “Sharing, huh?” she said. “Does that mean you’re going to be wearing my underwear soon?” She laughed at the shocked look on his face.
They fell silent, gazing out into their backyard as the sun slowly began to set. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful, which was what had attracted the couple to it while doing their house-hunting.
“So, now that we’ve checked off ‘buy a house’ from our to-do list, what's next?” Misa suddenly asked, taking a sip of lemonade from the tall glass in her hand. It had taken them nearly six months to find the perfect house, which, interestingly enough, was just a few streets away from Misa’s parents’ home.
Kyuhyun took another quick drink, then turned to her, smirking. “How about we bake some cupcakes?” he suggested, his eyes mischievously lit.
“What?” she asked, sending him a puzzled look. “Are you hungry or something, anata?”
His smile faltered a bit as he looked embarrassed. “I think I’m getting my analogies mixed up again,” he admitted, sheepishly. “Let’s try this again: how about we put some buns in the oven?” He looked at her then, almost hopeful.
Misa burst out laughing. “Something got lost in the translation, babe!” she teased. “I’m still totally confused!”
“Yah!” her husband exclaimed, slapping her leg. “Don’t be slow, angel! I’m talking about babies; we should make babies next!” He shook his head at her.
