Enemy Lines-JJ

"I cannot believe some boy from the cut that I don't know is coming over to my house. This is ridiculous!" Saige's mom groaned. She had just finished cooking and made sure the house looked immaculate for JJ's arrival even though he had already been over plenty of times before. Saige was nervous all day about him coming. Not because of him, but because she was worried about her mom. She did not want JJ coming over but Saige's dad finally won the argument saying she didn't have a choice.

Saige got a text from JJ saying that he was on his way and was excited to see her. She smiled and told her family that he would be there in a few minutes, which sent her mom into even more of a frenzy.

"You guys should have given me at least a weeks notice in advance, I mean come on." Her mom complained again.

"Mom, chill. Everything is gonna go great, I promise. JJ is a sweet guy and I know you're going to love him. Just give him a chance!" Saige comforted her mom.

"I don't know, I thought Rafe was pretty good for you-" Her mom was cut off by the sound of the doorbell ringing. Saige sighed in relief that she wouldn't have to talk about Rafe again. Her mom didn't know about everything that went down between them.

"Don't worry, ladies, I'll get it." Saige's dad rushed to the door. She tried to beat him there but it was too late.

"JJ, buddy, how are you?" Her dad asked and shook JJ's empty hand. In his other hand he held a bouquet of roses.

"I'm doing good, sir, how are you?" JJ replied. He looked Saige in the eyes and smiled in relief at the sight of her.

"I'm doing great. Come on in!"

To be honest, Saige was surprised at JJ's outfit. He was dressed very nicely in a button down shirt and jeans along with his beat-up converse.

"Hi, I'm JJ. These are for you, I hope you like roses." He handed the roses to Saige's mom and she had a big grin on her face at the sweet gesture.

"Wow, JJ, these are beautiful! Thank you so much, I will have to go find a pretty vase to put them in. I'm Anna, Saige's mom. It's nice to meet you." She went to shake his hand but he pulled her in for a hug. Saige could have melted into a puddle. They pulled away and JJ looked at Saige's brother who was sitting at the table playing his Nintendo switch, completely oblivious to the situation before him.

"Hey dude, I'm JJ."

"Yeah, whatever." Her brother replied. Saige smacked him on the back of his head and he yelped in pain.

"That's Drew, my baby brother." Saige said then walked up to JJ and gave him a hug. He squeezed her tightly and she squeezed him back.

"I missed you." He whispered in her ear.

"I missed you too, you're doing great."

"Who's ready to eat? JJ, I hope you like chicken." Saige's mom said as she laid out all the food on the table. Saige could tell she was relaxing more because of their greeting going so smoothy.

"Yeah I'm hungry, thank you for cooking all this food." JJ's idea was to butter Saige's family up as much as possible to make sure they liked him. Everybody sat around the table and fixed their plates.

"So JJ, do you work?" Saige's dad asked.

"Yeah, I work at the country club."

"How did you two meet?" Her mom asked.

"Sarah introduced us, she hangs out with JJ and his friends." Saige told the modified version because she didn't want to tell the whole story. Her mom had no idea she goes to parties.

"Do you know Rafe?" Saige groaned at her moms question.. of course she found a way to bring him up.

"Uh, yeah, I've been around him a bit but I don't know him too well. My best friend is dating Sarah."

"Are you kidding me? Dang, I was gonna go after Sarah. Tell your friend I'm coming for him." Saige snorted at Drew's threat. He was twelve and Sarah was sixteen.

"Are you handy around the house?" Saige's dad changed the subject. He definitely did not want to talk anymore about Rafe, he hated the guy.

"Yeah I'd say so, I helped my dad out a lot when I was younger. We did a lot of projects together."

"That is so sweet, I bet you and your dad are so close." Saige's mom said and JJ just smiled softly at her. Saige grabbed his hand under the table to quietly comfort him.

"You know, I could use some help building stuff around here. I have a big project I want to work on and I'd be glad to pay you for your time." Saige's dad offered. Maybe it'll go a lot better with JJ than it did with Rafe.

"Paying me won't be necessary but yeah, I'd love that. Especially if it means I can see this girl more often." JJ looked at Saige and smiled at her making her smile back. How did she get so lucky?

"Maybe we can make her your own personal assistant." Her dad winked, making Saige hide her face behind her hands and JJ's cheeks turn red. "How about we start in the morning?"

"That'd be great, I won't be doing anything and I normally work at night time. I'll be glad to help."

This meant so much to JJ. He was already trusted by Saige's dad to work for him and he'd be able to see Saige more.. Life was getting better and better by the minute.

JJ and the family chatted for two hours. They asked him about his parents but he lightly brushed the question off and kept talking about Saige. She was his favorite subject. They told stories about her growing up that kept her embarrassed and kept JJ laughing. But, as great as the time was, it made him realized how screwed up of a family he had. Well, how screwed up his dad was since that was the only family he had. He decided that he wanted Saige's family to be his, too. That's what he was going to work towards.

"If it's alright, me and JJ are going to hang out upstairs for a little bit and catch up." Saige said to her parents when everybody was getting up from the table.

"Fine, just no hanky pinky going on." Her dad warned and she groaned.

"Dad, shut up! Everybody say goodbye to JJ."

"Bye JJ, it was so great to meet you. I guess I'll be seeing you tomorrow?" Her mom said.

"Of course, it was great to meet you too."

"Yeah, it was nice to see you again. Care to come over at eleven tomorrow?" Her dad asked.

"Sure thing, I'll be glad to help." JJ shook her dad's hand again before they walked up to her room. JJ shut the door behind him and let out a deep sigh.

"How did I do?"

"I think they loved you." Saige giggled before hugging him. It was hard having to share his attention with her family.. she liked having him all to herself.

"I'm really glad he asked me to come work with him. Now, I'll be here all the time."

"I know, it's gonna be hard keeping my hands off of you." Saige said suggestively. She ran her finger slowly across his chest and he shivered.

"You drive me crazy, you know that?"

"It's my job, babe."
