The empty space felt cold and unyielding, as Jhera walked absently through the endless display of white. The woman beside her keeping pace, her red hair a stark contrast to the alabaster environment. Jhera's bare feet took in the smooth floor, noticing there were no flaws or cracks. The walls of the space seemed close, yet eternally far away.
"Where are we?" her eyes continued to scan the never ending space.
"Nowhere." The woman looked about the area, "The space between your reality and the spirit realm."
"It's called Nowhere?" a tone of absurdity in her voice.
"Pretty much." The fiery red head smiled to the woman.
"Ok," Jhera did her best to process the information placed before her. "What do I call you?"
"Mother is nice," her smile was gentle and kind, "your father called me Claudia. Said it was because I enraptured him." Her emerald eyes scanned the space at her feet, lost in a memory long sense gone by. "My mother called me Aelia, because I was her sunrise." Again a smile graced her delicate features, the memories of her past flooding forward.
Jhera scanned her face, expressions of love and remorse flickered across her emerald orbs. "Claudia... Mother, what do I do?" The plea she laid before her shook the woman from her thoughts. With a sorrowful smile, she met her gaze.
"Oh child," she sighed, "you will sacrifice everything for them."
A tear escaped Jhera's right eye, rolling slowly down her cheek as the words she spoke sunk in. "My family?"
"Your pack will be intact, but there is a great cost." She brought her left hand to Jhera's cheek and captured the tear in her fingers, "Your Alpha will feel the pain of loss the most."
Jhera shook her head, "You're saying we'll die? That I'll die? That he'll lose me?" Questions flooded the open air as Jhera gasped them out as quickly as the came to mind. She cursed herself for not filtering her words, but she still needed answers.
"That's the prophecy." Her eyes ached with sorrow for the woman before her. "Such a heavy burden for such young shoulders."
"Which one?" Jhera cleared her throat, as her voice cracked. "Which prophecy?"
"The Lunar Codex. It was written by a child of the Crescent moon, bearing the same mark." Her hand graced Jhera's right bicep briefly, reminding her of the birth mark she carried.
"My birth mark?" Her hand brushing over it absently.
"A mark for greatness." She turned and began walking once again, Jhera falling in step alongside her. "It is written that when the blood moon rises high in the sky, with the Hunter to her back, the guardian will come. The first born daughter, in an Alpha's line of sons." Her eyes scanned the air, as if she searched for something. Adjusting the hem of her iridescent gown, she turned slightly before beginning again. "It says the one with the mark of greatness will be the guardian of the true line, the blood line of the first wolf." Her gaze looking to Jhera, hints of a smile playing at the corners of her mouth, and then back to the invisible path before them, "She'll be the mother of greatness and the protector of her children. She'll be an unstoppable force against the darkness."
Jhera watched as the woman's gaze fell to the floor, watching her feet. Silence fell between them as she spoke the word, darkness. It was several steps more before Jhera spoke. "What is the darkness?"
"It's pure evil." Her response was quick and her face darted to the woman, then returned to it neutral position. Her eyes carefully watching the floor as she spoke, "It's taken most of the Crescent line." Taking in a deep breath, she adjusting her posture and continued, "When I met your father, I came here to petition the line to allow me to breed. They knew the prophecy better then I did at that time, knowing I would bring forth a child." She looked to Jhera, "If I had known the burden you would bear, I probably wouldn't have made the choice I did."
