I'm a mermaid. Okay, hold on. Maybe I should introduce myself, I'm Iris. I found out I was a mermaid when I was 12, and I never told anyone. Not my family, not my friends, no one. And I wasn't planning on telling anyone, until I heard them. Sirens. Now you may be thinking, well aren't mermaids and sirens the same thing? No, they aren't. Sirens kill, mermaids protect. Big difference. By the way, don't EVER call a mermaid a siren, it's rude. Now back to the story. Well I suppose I should go back in time a little bit, just so you understand everything. But first I'll tell you a little bit about mermaids and sirens.Mermaids have always protected humans from sirens. Sirens would try to lure heartbroken humans into the water and drown them. Mermaids however would come and try to interfere. Mermaids have a countersong to the sirens song. No one really used it though, at least as far as I'm concerned. For all I know I'm the only mermaid, on land at least.
