Chapter 17

Neo's POV

Iris and I walked out of her apartment and went around the back to the rocks. I didn't normally go down on the rocks, because it was easier to go around but when I did I was with Iris. Iris practically jumped all the way down to the sand, but I climbed down slowly, Iris waited patiently for me below.

"I'm guessing you wanted me to grab the talkies because you wanted me to go under water?" Iris said as I jumped the last 2 feet to the ground.

"In a way yes. But you don't have to." I shrugged.

"It's cool, we might as well use them."

"You sure?"

"Yeah." Iris walked over to the water and began wadding in. I stood still as she began to glow and within seconds she had a tail. She went under the water and I heard her voice over my walkie talkies. "Can you hear me?" She asked.

"Yeppers." I said.

"Cool, I'm going back to the kelp forest."

"Wait, I've got an idea. What if I had a friend that owns a boat, and he said I could use it."

"Who would trust you with their boat?"

"Jamie." I said. Iris groaned, I knew she wasn't really friends with Jamie. "Please, I want to be out there with you."

"Fine, would Jamie have to come with us?"

"Unfortunately."

"And if he sees me?"

"We'll have something to explain."

"Great." Iris's voice was dripping with sarcasm. "Give him a call, and I'll get out."

"Thanks Iris." I smiled, I pulled out my phone and gave Jamie a call. He answered within a few rings, and I asked him about his boat, and he said we could use it, as long as he was with us. I told him where we were, and told him to meet us here with the boat. Iris and I were talking when Jamie came over.

"Ready?" Jamie grinned.

"Yep let's go." Iris said. She walked over to his boat and Jamie held his hand out for her to grab, instead she pulled herself up on the edge of the boat, she then held her hand out for me, and I took it. She pulled me aboard and Jamie turned on the engine. "Stop here." Iris said, we were barely even 200 feet out.

"Why?" Jamie asked.

"Because I said so." Iris countered,dating him to argue with her. "You have you walkie?" She turned to me.

"Yep." I replied. "Be careful."

She smiled and jumped into the water.

"Hey! There was a shark spotted here yesterday! It's not safe to swim!" Jamie yelled. I could see Iris glowing below us, and I knew she had transformed. "Did you see that? What was that?" Jamie yelled to me.

"See what?" I asked, looking as innocent as possible. Jamie glared at me, but looked back at the water.

"Neo? Can you hear me?" Iris's voice came from the walkie.

"Loud and clear Iris." I replied.

"Wait she didn't have any gear or anything. How is she talking?!" Jamie yelled once more.

"Magic." Iris said. I pulled my finger off the button.

"Oops." I shrugged.

"I'm at the floor." Iris said.

"Ok,how far is Alex's?" I asked.

"Not far, maybe 50 feet to my right." Iris said. "Should I go and ask for directions?"

"Don't bother. He's not worth your time."

"Alright, I'll go to my left then."

"No don't, I would think Alex would live by the town or whatever, just try to stay away from him."

"You're so confusing." Iris laughed.

"Who's Alex? And how is she talking down there?" Jamie asked again.

"Magic." I said. "Now stop eavesdropping." Jamie groaned but he pulled out his phone and started to play on it.

"Aw crap." Iris said.

"What? Are you ok?" I asked.

"I'm fine, Alex saw me, he's chasing me."

"Crap is right." I muttered.

"I'm going to talk to him. Before you freak, I'm going to ask for directions. We'll be out here for years otherwise." Iris said. She was cut off, and I knew she turned off her walkie. I groaned. This girl would be the death of me.

After about 5 minutes, Iris's voice rang out from my pocket. "Sorry for taking so long. I know where to go now." She said.

"Alex better not have caused you much trouble." I said.

"He didn't, he wanted me to explain why I wanted to know, and he wasn't happy until I told him the whole story."

"I'm sorry Iris, this was a bad idea. Wasn't it?" I told her.

"No it wasn't, I just wish you were down here with me."

"Me too." I smiled. "How do you know what he looks like? I know your hair grows out, so how do we know if it's him?"

"Well, I may have told Alex my dad's name, he said that he didn't know him personally, but others probably did."

"Is he still with you?"

"No, I told him to go home after he told me where to go."

"Ok, if he was I would have loved to talk to him."

"Sure you would have." Iris said. I could practically hear her eye roll, and I could help but roll my eyes as well. "I can see it." Iris said suddenly.

"See what?"

"The city, I can see other mermaids." I could hear the amazement in her voice.

"Well what are you waiting for? Go look for your dad!" I smiled, and I could hear Iris giggle.

"I'm going to ask around a bit, when someone knows where he is, I'll let you know."

"Ok, wait before you go, what is your dad's name? I don't think you ever told me."

"His name is Frank Finley."
