Chapter 19

Iris's POV

The minute I saw the city I was amazed, it glittered and sparkled, as the sun shone down onto the buildings. I swam as fast as I could toward it, I looked at some people's tails to see they put cloth over it like a skirt. I rolled my eyes at them, why would they do that? I started asking around if anyone knew a Frank Finley. No one did. I took a seat on a bench that was next to a tall building. The door opened, and a woman came out and said. "Thanks Frank!"

"Happy to help, Mia!" A man said, it took me a second to recognize him, the man was my father. His hair was still a dark brown and his eyes were still a bright blue, the same color I used to have, before my eyes went grey. I swam into the shop, and up to the man.

"Excuse me?" I said.

"How can I help you young lady?" He asked, and I recognized his deep voice.

"I'm looking for my father."

"What's his name?"

"Frank Finley." As soon as I said his name, he froze.

"I'm sorry, I don't have any children." He said, still stiff.

"So you are Frank Finley?"

"Yes, that's me."

"And you don't have any children?"

"None sorry, I'm afraid you have the wrong man."

"So you don't recognize me?" I asked.

"No, I don't know you." He said.

"You don't even recognize the name Iris Finley?" I asked, my voice breaking.

"Iris? Is it really you?" He asked.

"So you do have children." I said "why did you lie?"

"Because, no one knows I have children, much less human children."

He came around and gave me a big hug. As angry as I was at him, he was still my Dad, and I loved him for that. I then remembered Neo, he was still waiting for me. I pulled away and turned on my walkie. "Neo? Are you still waiting?" I asked.

"Yeah, I'm still here. I've been getting calls from your mom non-stop. On my phone and yours. Did you find your dad?" Neo answered.

"Yeah I did." I smiled.

"Well, if he's willing, he should come and say hello, I'm sure Lily would love to meet him." Neo said. My dad looked at me, probably remembering when I was only 10 and Lily was just a new born baby.

"Would you like to?" I asked Dad.

"Yes, I really would." He said smiling.

"We'll be up soon." I told Neo. My dad swam off into a different room and came back with a small bag, and we started swimming away from the beautiful city.

We made it to the surface in no time, the hardest part would be finding the boat. I pulled out my walkie. "Hey Neo? I don't know where you are." I admitted.

"No problem, I'll have Jamie start up the engine and we'll look for you." He said.

"Ok, I would advise finding the kelp forest and going right from there." I said. "Before warned you might scare Alex."

"I don't have a problem with that." Neo said, and I laughed. We waited a minute, and I could see the boat coming to us.

"Alright Neo, I see you. You can stop the boat."

"Alrighty." Neo said, and the boat stopped. My dad and I swam over to the boat, I could see Neo and he smiled at me, and I smiled back. Once we were close I removed my tail and Neo held out his arms for me to grab, he pulled me up, and we both pulled my dad up. His tail was gone too. I saw Jamie looking terrified, at me and my dad but I didn't care. I hugged Neo and thanked him for everything. Jamie started up the boat and we sped to shore. I sat down Neo by my side, and I pulled out my phone. 12 missed calls from Mom. My phone read. I called mom.

"Hello? Are you ok Iris? Where are you?" Mom said when she answered.

"I'm fine. I'm with Neo. Is Lily awake?" I asked.

"Yes, but I was about to have her go to bed. Why?"

"I have a surprise for you and her, I need you to be on the beach." I told her.

"Ok, I'll see you soon." And with that she hung up. Jamie made it to the beach before Mom and Lily, and he needed to get home, so he dropped us off, and Neo made him promise not to tell anyone about what he saw or heard today. I could hear my mom and Lily coming towards us. My dad was fussing over how he looked, when mom and Lily came around the corner. Mom stopped in her tracks and I yelled "surprise!" She broke into tears and the couple ran to each other, and Lily just looked confused. I walked up to her and pointed to dad.

"Lil, meet, Frank Finley, our father." Lily's eyes widened and she smiled. She ran up to him and he looked down and began to cry even more. Neo walked up behind me and gave me a side hug.

"You did good." He said.

"We. We did good." I corrected.

"We." He chuckled.
