Iris's POV
I could hear Alex calling for me, but I didn't care. I needed to get home before it got dark. Suddenly Alex's voice was gone, it was like he had been pulled beneath the waves. I looked around for him, only to see a fin coming for me.
"This isn't funny Alex." I said, trying to back away. "Please stop, you're scaring me." That only made the fin come closer. I screamed hoping that Alex would hear me, but it seemed that he had left me.
That coward, I thought. I dove under the water to see the largest shark I have ever seen. I swam like I had never swam before, and I could tell the shark was following close behind. I forced myself to look at the shore to make sure no one was there, and unfortunately someone was, but I was too close to the shore to try and go somewhere else, so I guess someone else would know about my secret. Great. I swam with my tail until I was in shallow enough water to stand. I removed my tail and ran through the water. I could see the shark pacing back and forth in deeper water. I looked over to the person who had just seen everything, only to see it was my mom, and she didn't seem surprised at all.

"I want answers. Now." I demanded.
"And you'll get them. When we get home." She said calmly.
We walked back to the house, and Lily ran up to me with a hug. "I missed you! Mom said you and to Neo's house, but you would have told me!" Lily said.
"Sorry Lil. Neo texted me saying he needed help with something, and I didn't have time to get you before I left." I tried to explain.
"Uh huh, sure."
"Lily, it's time for bed." My mom said.
"Fine." She stopped off.
"Have you eaten?" Mom asked.
"No, but I want answers, not dinner." I said.
"Alright. You're going to want to sit." I sat down at the dining table, and looked at her ready for her to explain. Your father was a merman. He never died, he just needed to go back to the water. When you turned 12 and didn't show any signs that you were a mermaid, I thought it had skipped you and Lily, I wanted you girls to have a normal life." Mom explained.
"You know what makes me sad. You didn't even notice when I started acting differently, when I seemed reluctant to go swimming, how I stopped taking showers and only took baths. You didn't see the signs that I changed. You didn't even bother to tell me that I could be a mermaid!" I yelled. "Where is he?" I demanded.
"Where is who?"
"Where is my Father?"
"I don't know! He didn't tell me!" Mom cried.
"Is that true? Or is it just another lie?" I went to my room after, I didn't want to hear her answer.
"Iris? Why did mom say you were a mermaid?" Lily asked.
"Because I am Lil, I know it sounds crazy, but it's true." I said.
"Am I a mermaid?"
"Maybe, we don't know yet. It's all a matter of time."
"If I am a mermaid can we move under water?"
"Probably not. Sorry Lil."
"Aww, ok." She said sadly. "Night night Iris."
"Night Lil."
I don't really have anything to say, But I hope you enjoyed!!
